2009 Resort Fashions

Christian Dior ruled French fashion during the 1940s and 1950s. He not only came up with the New Look that produced the hourglass figure, but also introduced a business strategy that, in just 10 years, would establish him on a global scale as the brand for luxury goods. Dior's first collection came out in 1947 and showcased the New Look. It featured soft, rounded shoulders, a cinched waist, and full flowing skirts.

Bow-Sleeve Sheath Dress
Puffed cap sleeves with bow accents.
Bateau neckline.
Curry (yellow).
Made in Italy.
Cotton.
$1990

Christian Dior died suddenly in 1957 of a heart attack while undergoing treatment in a spa in Italy. In the following years, several renowned designers took over at the House of Dior until 1990 when the luxury goods manufacturer LMVH (Möet Hennessey Luis Viutton) bought it, and since then the English designer John Galliano has been the chief designer.

Pleated-Waist Jacket & Pencil Skirt
Pleated-Waist Jacket:
Accordion-pleated waist; ruffled peplum.
Bateau neckline; button front. Orders came from the likes of Rita Hayworth, the ballerina Margot Fonteyn, and Dior was even invited to give a private presentation to the British royal family in London. During the 1950s, famous clients followed – Ava Gardner, Marlene Dietrich, Princess Margaret, and the Duchess of Windsor, among others.

Fringe-Collar Sheath Dress
Twisted collar with fringe.
Slim skirt with back vent.
Cotton/polyamide.
Made in France.
Belted waist.
$2690

Christian Dior almost singlehandedly restored Paris as the fashion capital of the world. They realized that the future was in an international market and diverse products, so they opened a fur subsidiary, a ready to wear outlet, and the first Christian Dior fragrance, Miss Dior.

Of course, the veil design will be a big factor in how the bride wears her hair, but there are other considerations like what styles are popular right now and what will suit the dress the best. In the end, though, there are three basic hairstyles that are the most popular among brides these days - hair that is worn down and wavy, hair that's swept up and hair that's half up and half down.

Let's look at each one in detail.

Wavy
Following the trend of what's popular in hair right now in general, many brides opt for hair that's parted in the middle and flows over the shoulders in soft waves. Although this hairstyle is best suited for women who have hair well below their shoulders, it can work with just about any length hair. The essence of this style is romance, so it's really all about getting a nice wave in the hair and creating a style that will last for the duration of the wedding and the reception. Just about any veil will look nice with this kind of hairstyle, but most experts say that your veil should be longer than your hair, so brides with very long hair might opt for a very long veil.

Upswept
This is the traditional and common way to wear hair for a wedding. Hair is swept up in some kind of off the neck style. It depends on the bride, the hair, the style of dress and a number of other factors how the hair is swept up.
Women with very long hair might enjoy the less formal upsweep that features little ringlets left loose and a casual pilling of the hair on the head. A woman with a shorter hairstyle might opt for a tight bun. Because many wedding dresses these days are strapless, wearing the hair up is a way to really accentuate the dress and highlight the bride's long neck and facial features. Just about any kind of veil will work with this hairstyle as well, but many women will choose to go without a veil and will wear a crown instead. This hairstyle, then, highlights the crown and it helps hold the crown in place.

Half Up and Half Down
This is soft, romantic and young looking. Not the same sophisticated and modern style as the upsweep, this style is popular with women who are wearing a less formal dress and want to portray a more casual and romantic style. Many women who choose a style that's half up and half down will also choose to have flowers in the back of their hair in lieu of a veil. This style is also excellent for highlighting the bride's facial features and giving some attention to the dress. It's also a style that will be easy to keep neat and tidy during both the wedding and reception. You should now have some good ideas for popular bridal hairstyles. Just like the wedding dress, how to wear your hair is a highly personal decision. No one style will suit every bride.

Brought to you by the stylish team at e.l.f.

I have been with my boyfriend for nearly two years. We live together, and I enjoy his company, and obviously, I am very much in love with him. He is affectionate in his own way. He'll give me pecks on the lips, he'll hug me occasionally, and once in a while he will make me dinner. He always holds my hand or has his arm around me in public places, which I really love.

I miss passion more than anything. We rarely have sex unless we are drunk, and I rarely get any deep, passionate kisses. I feel so much for him, and I want him to be more passionate and romantic. I have spoken to him many times about this before, and he doesn't seem to care. Ya know, when I send him some short email just to say I love you -- it would count for something if he sent one in return. It would count for something if he returned any of what I do for him. I make it a point to touch him, or to kiss his cheek. I rub his back, his shoulders -- you name it. I make him dinner all the time, and lunch as well. I write him little emails, or leave little notes around. I feel increasingly lonely.

I keep finding ways to not be around him. When I look at him, and I see him playing with our kitten, and loving our kitten, I hate to say that I feel jealous. He seems to give everything love but me. I leave him alone, and don't bother coming out of the bedroom. I will not get what I really want.

I want to try to create romance or some passion. He doesn't seem to want to, or he doesn't know how to. At this point, I am tired of waiting -- and God knows I have for such a long time. What can I do to ignite a fire in this relationship and make him WANT to be more romantic and passionate? This is so frustrating to me, and I am at my wit's end.

Any help is appreciated.

If you’re a bit unlucky like me and you’re birthday falls near Christmas, you might currently be experiencing ‘dress panic’, like I am. With so many social occasions in such a short space of time, wearing the same dress for more than one of them is out of the question. Therefore I need an extensive dress wardrobe that’ll still leave me with some change left over for buying Christmas presents.

So here’s a selection of great party dresses that will have you looking the belle of the ball without being a Christmas Scrooge!

First up on the left is a Satin Puff Dress from Topshop, which is currently reduced from £65 to only £40. Purple is the ultimate colour to be seen in, and looks great with staple silver accessories. The pintuck detail nips you in at the waist to create a great silhouettes, and being a strapless dress means you can add a sprinkling of glitter to your shoulders for a shimmery detail.

Next, in the middle is a Scoop Neck Bugle Bead Tunic Limited Collection dress from Marks and Spencer, which currently has 20% off the £49.50 price tag. The lovely peacock colour is great for this season’s jewel trend, and the simple but flattering cut will suit most body shapes, especially you skinny petites.

And finally, every dress collection needs one, the old faithful LBD. I’ve opted for this ASOS Zip Back Shift Dress, that costs £38. The classic shift shape should see you through many a season, as it can be easily adapted with a belt and transformed with accessories. Whilst prom dresses and lace look great now, will you still want to be pulling it out the wardrobe next year? Simple and uncomplicated, this dress speaks for itself, and is perfect for unexpected wardrobes and slipping on when nothing else works.

Keep your eye out for bargains, and get ready to hit those parties!

So I'm set until it's time to do the gravy and sweet potatoes etc. I actually enjoy doing the turkey, because it's a big project where you need to be organized and I like that kinda thing. I think about it the night before, step-by-step, because I'm a dork like that. It's just me and my parents and Harlow and Boris at home, which is what I prefer rather than treking to someone else's house with a big crowd of people. Even though they are family too, I prefer to stick to my core, my home base. Quiet and casual.
I'm doing my regular work today, getting things ready for the next website update and getting packages ready to ship out tomorrow. No, I won't be going out on Black Friday. I'm doing most of my shopping online this year.
I bobbed my hair last night and I think that I like it. You know me and my hair. I want to grow it long but everytime it gets to my shoulders I end up cutting it. The brown dye from last month didn't hold very well for some reason, and I'm pretty much back to my natural color.
I'm off to measure the dresses that I'm working on for next week.
