Cosme.Net 2008 The Best Cosmetics Awards

Cosme.Net (@Cosme) has posted the feature on The Best Cosmetics Awards 2008. The results are based on reader reviews of products released between November 1, 2007 and October 31, 2008.

Two things that caught my attention are the Best Eyeshadow and Best Newcomer awards. My two favorite eye palette series in 2008, Coffret D'Or's 3D Lighting Eyes and Lunasol's Sheer Contrast Eyes (both from spring 2008) are number 1 and 2 on the list. (Sofina Aube's Impression Eyes took the number 3 spot.) 3D Lighting Eyes also won the Best Newcomer award.

I am happy that it seems many other people agree that the two ranges offer fantastic products. The two 3D Lighting Eyes palettes I have, Purple and Gold Variations, are among my favorite eye palettes, while Sheer Contrast Eyes' Lavender Coral is also among my favorites and is probably my favorite lilac palette at the moment.

These items are undoubtedly some of the makeup highlights for me in 2008, and I am certainly looking forward to what these two brands have to offer in 2009!

Hi, girls! (And boys, because at my reunion last night, SEVERAL dudes in my graduating class 'fessed up to reading BBJ. LOVE it!)

How was your Thanksgiving? Mine was PHENOM. I ate far too much turkey. I received the best gift from my BFF AE Lee, an ENORMOUS Twilight poster (featuring JUST Edward) that my roommate and I have taped up in our kitchen. Yes, I know we're both 28. But that's just where it had to live.

Also, at my ten-year reunion last night, my friend Dana B asked about hair product recommendations. I nearly screamed that she MUST familiarize herself with MoroccanOil. Stay tuned for SO many more details about it. I'm obviously dedicating an entire post to this miracle hair elixer. The copywriting claims it produces "striking shine," and that it does. It's my new holy grail product.

In other hair news, Trish, my high school friend who opened her own FAB salon in Ambler , PA is apparently doing everyone's hair from the class of 1998. Seriously. Oh, and also? I am just SO hungover from the reunion. Still. The bar was serving BIG GULP-sized vodka sodas, mmkay? And apparently, I needed like, seven, to party like it was 1998. Also necessary when reuning? Using people's first and last names EVERY time you address them. Also, facebook has rendered reunions totes anti-climactic. Nearly every convo I had went like this:

"Mazel tov on your wedding/new child/job, [FIRST NAME LAST NAME]! I saw it on facebook. I promise I'm not creepy. Saw it in my newsfeed."

Using full names is vital in a reuning situ. But most vital of all was my secret weapon - my lip stain/gloss combo I've named The Holiday Lip. Here's what you need to achieve it.

Okay, I got to admit, I still kind of love Courtney Love, just less than before. Considering that she’s going to be on the new cover of Elle talking about her relationship with Karl et al, I figure I'll post something from the time when she was still giving interesting interviews instead.

Incidently, this is also from the only issue of NME that I wish I kept, if only for the sheer loco - ness of Courtney trying to give Julian Casablanca the "Bono talk". Poor guy.

Calvin Klein Delicious Light Glistening Lip Gloss in Maven ($16.00) is a great night-on-the-town kind of color. It’s a very pigmented gloss in a deep shade of burgundy-wine, so it gives lips a dramatic look without being too high maintenance. The gloss formula itself is non-sticky as far as I could tell, but still thick enough that it’s not a balm or a sheer gloss.

When applied, the color goes on smoothly and looks almost like shimmering water (if water was burgundy and that was acceptable!). The shimmer is just right; it’s obvious and noticeable, but it isn’t chunky or gritty. I found the gloss lasted for several hours before fading, and I didn’t get the dreaded lipgloss ring at the end of the day. I rarely like a gloss enough to wear it alone, but I find this one to be exceptional for that purpose.

This gloss is perfect for nights out, but you can definitely rock it during the day time. Right now, I keep it in my purse, because its an easy grab-and-go color I can wear if I need to amp up my look while out and about.

FISHNETS AND TOP HATS

Spelling it out loud and clear that shes still got it, Christina Aguilera took to the stage at the 2008 American Music Awards in Los Angeles on Nov 23 and brought the house down with her 7 minute medley featuring her most memorable hits. Giving an impressively energetic performance complete with costume changes, special lighting and sound effects and plenty of high energy choreography, Mamaguileras gig brought the house down and rivaled performances from divas including Rihanna, Beyonce, and the Pussycat Dolls. Its hard to believe shes already been doing this for a decade, and even harder to believe that a 28 year old mom can shake it so well! In contrast to the vintage lacy Elie Saab dress she arrived in, Christina took the stage in thigh high leather boots (try the interesting vertical seams on Matikos Sienna Boot in Black) and racy fishnets, beginning her act in a tailored black coat (nab the mysterious look with Ingwa Meleros Velvet Coat with Frog Closure in Black) shielding her ensemble as she transitioned through hits from Beautiful to Genie in a Bottle to Keeps Gettin Better, ending the show in a top hat and sexy corset mini (make it wearable with Lotta Stenssons Shirred Mini Tube Dress in Black or Shumaqs Marrisa Dress in Black) with a sheer lace vest finishing off her fit. Did any of you have a chance to catch the show? With her new album still in the works, its clear Mamaguilera is working hard to revamp her image, and I have to say theres a noticeable difference in her demeanor. Speaking of her latest recordings, Christina told the press: With this new album, I wanted to go in a completely opposite direction-a very futuristic, robotic sound and computer-sounding vocals. Im experimenting with my voice in ways Ive never done before, almost like a technical, computer-generated sound, which is different for me because Im the type of vocalist that just belts. Im always inspired by new things because I get bored. Im intrigued to see just what Mamaguilera has in store for us -- do any of you agree?...

The more work I have/get, the more I crave for some free time to concentrate on the next collection, fall 2009. I won’t start describing everything that’s in my head, as it’s not about what you imagine that I will do next, but about how I materialize the ideas that I have. I’m thinking bondage, playfulness, sheer, contrast between leather and organza, shiny and rough, latex and wool. I’m thinking fitted, constructed dresses to depart a bit from all the draping I did until now. So excited!
