two hotels: one reaches up, one reaches out

A tale of two cities: On one end, Shanghai, who’s ready to step out of Beijing’s architectural shadow with some record-breaking structures of its own. The showcase: the completion, after 14 (!) years, of the Shanghai World Financial Center — standing at 1,600 feet as the tallest building in China and the third tallest in the world. The Park Hyatt Shanghai has taken up shop in the 79th through 93rd floors of the 101-story skyscraper, just in time to welcome fans eager for another Roger/Rafa bout at the year-ending Tennis Masters Cup.

And down South, on Brazil’s Emerald Coast, the Ponta Dos Ganchos Resort is debuting five luxury seafront bungalows via an auction to benefit Instituto Guga Kuerten. The four new Emerald Villa Bungalows (2,455 sq. ft.) and one Special Emerald Villa Bungalow (3,210 sq. ft.), opening in the first week of December, feature dry saunas and jacuzzis with sea views, personal spa areas with massage tatamis, wine cellars, and private decks and plunge pools. Breaking News: Angelina Jolie gives birth to twin girls!!!!

NICE, France (AFP) — Hollywood star Angelina Jolie has given birth to healthy twins, a girl and a boy, in the French Riviera maternity clinic she has checked into, the Nice-Matin newspaper reported Sunday quoting her gynaecologist.

The twins, Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline, were born shortly before 8:00 pm (1800 GMT) on Saturday, the paper said quoting gynaecologist Michel Sussmann.

Jolie is fine after having a Caesarian section, it added.

Knox Leon was reported to weigh 2.27 kilogrammes (five pounds) and Vivienne Marcheline 2.28 kilogrammes (5.02 pounds).

The babies' first photograph was sold to a US paper for 11 million dollars (6.9 million euros), Nice-Matin said, adding that the money would be given to a humanitarian cause.

A source close to the clinic had said earlier the birth was expected in mid-August.

The twins brought 33-year-old Jolie's brood with partner Brad Pitt to six.

Pitt was seen entering Nice's Santa Maria clinic, part of the Lanval hospital on the seafront Promenade des Anglais, on July 2 with at least two of their children.

A spokesperson for Lanval could not immediately be reached Sunday morning to confirm the report.

Jolie and Pitt, 44, have been the subject of celebrity gossip fascination since they met on the set of their 2005 film "Mr and Mrs Smith."

Dubbed "Brangelina," they have adopted three children: Maddox, six, born in Cambodia; four-year-old Pax, born in Vietnam; and Zahara, three, born in Ethiopia.

They also had a biological child, Shiloh, born in Namibia, in May 2006.

The pair, who frequently top magazine lists of the world's most beautiful people or couple, set up home in May in a chateau they rented from an American acquaintaince in France's Provence region.

Pitt was previously married to "Friends" star Jennifer Aniston, while Jolie has been married twice before.

Angelina Jolie Gave Birth to Twin Girls

In Touch Weekly is reporting that Angelina Jolie not only gave birth to her twins today (Saturday), but that she gave birth to two baby girls. In Touch says:

Sources at the La Fondation Lenval hospital in Nice, France, have revealed exclusively to In Touch that Angelina Jolie has given birth to her twins. According to insiders, the 33-year-old had a caesarean today at 6pm French time and delivered two girls. The first baby was born at 6.45 pm and the other at 7pm. The babies are in good health, another insider says. Sources say Brad was present during the birth. When contacted by In Touch, the hospital’s spokesperson, Nadine Bauer, said that journalists would not be notified ”within minutes” after the birth and that the only way they would be told was by a press release posted on the hospital Web site. Another insider adds that Angelina is expected to leave the hospital with her newborns within 48 hours. Angelina checked into the seafront hospital earlier this month in anticipation of the twins arrival.

There is also a statement from the spokesperson, Nadine Bauer, at Lenval Hospital in Nice, France, who says:

“It is wrong information.”

Bauer goes on to say any information regarding Jolie will be posted on the hospital web site.

Jolies own rep has also denied that Jolie gave birth. Jolie is scheduled to be either induced or have a C-Section this coming Tuesday.

Angelina Jolies Doctor Holds Press Conference

Angelina Jolie checked into the seafront Lenval hospital in the South of France this weekend in anticipation of giving birth to twins.

Jolie’s doctor, Michel Sussmann, held a press conference on Wednesday to update the media on her condition.

“Everything is normal,” the obstetrician said in French, as he also said in English, “She is very well, and she’s okay.”

“It is simply a visit of surveillance, no birth,” Sussmann said of his patient, who entered the hospital over the weekend. “Brad and Angie want everyone to know that everything is going well.”

Saying that Jolie’s “very, very nice,” the doctor added, “She will stay in the hospital until the birth. I will stay with her.”

Sussmann did not specify the due date. He said, “This is something you can’t program, you never know for sure.”

The Jolie-Pitt clan, who have been living in exclusive wine resort Villa Maryland in Provence, France since the beginning of summer, is currently staying in a four-room maternity suite overlooking the Bay of Angels.

Something doesn’t sound right.

Angelina Jolie’s obstetrician, Dr. Michel Sussmann is going to hold a press conference lat this afternoon. We have no idea what the hell he is going to announce. I hope it’s birth of the twins…but why would he need a conference? In Angelina’s last birth, they didn’t hold a conference…why would they hold one now? What makes this different? Angelina checked in at a French Riviera hospital on Sunday and was expected to give birth…Brad was seen leaving the seafront Lenval hospital Wednesday morning. Weird…why would he leave?

Hmm. Time to wait for this press conference- hopefully everything is fine.

UPDATE!!!: The conference wasn’t amazing. The doc said that Angelina is fine, so are the chosen ones, they will arrive in a few weeks. Blah blah blah…

This is a bit….. peculiar.

The doctor has been watching the 33-year-old actress at a French Riviera hospital, where she checked in on Sunday and is expected to give (have given) birth.

Poppa Pitt, Brad, was seen leaving the seafront Lenval hospital Wednesday morning.

Nice Matin, the local newspaper, reported that Jolie has the best room in the hospital, on the fifth floor, with an "unobstructed view" over the Bay of Angels. It said she arrived by helicopter, landing Sunday afternoon on the hospital's roof.

The newspaper said the actress reserved four rooms on the maternity ward, with a bodyguard keeping watch.

NICE, France (AP) — Fabulous views of the shimmering Mediterranean, tufty palm trees, all bathed in a July sun. In short, a royal place for Brangelina's twins to make their much-awaited entrance.

Angelina Jolie's obstetrician, Dr. Michel Sussmann, who is watching over the 33-year-old actress at a French Riviera hospital where she is expected to give birth, called a news conference for later Wednesday afternoon.

Would he announce that her twins had been born? That remained a mystery; the hospital wouldn't say.

Jolie's partner, Brad Pitt, was seen leaving the seafront Lenval hospital Wednesday morning with one of their four young children.

The hospital announced Tuesday that Jolie had checked into its Santa Maria maternity clinic to be kept under doctors' watch and rest before she gives birth.

A hospital spokeswoman said the births were "not for right away," but spokeswoman Nadine Bauer said Jolie would almost certainly stay in the clinic until then.

Nice Matin, the local newspaper, reported that Jolie has the best room in the hospital, on the fifth floor, with an "unobstructed view" over the Bay of Angels. The Brangelina clan has been settling into a new home in the south of France, in Correns, about 60 miles from Nice. The town's mayor confirmed that the couple had moved into the Miraval Estate villa, and a helicopter has been spotted taking off and landing from there.

Can clothing really take off pounds?

Well maybe or maybe not. But the hottest shoe for last year promise toned legs and more shapely calves.
Apparently they simulate an uneven walking surface which challenges core calf, thigh and butt muscles to maintain control while you walk . They were mentioned in The Times in May last year and the Daily Mail in June last year and of course got very mixed feedback from how incredibly comfy to how incredibly uncomfy they were but no real mention of whether they worked. So not completely sold on their leg toning ability, I have decided to give them a go on the basis that if there is a chance that they might tone my legs up just a little bit then it must be worth it.

I ordered myself a pair of Fitflop Walkstar Sandals and they arrived a few days ago. I have worn them non stop since and I think I am starting to feel the toning effects. Perhaps I imagining it but my legs have definitely been aching, here what I did:

Thursday - I wore them all day but there was unlikely to be any effect as I hardly moved from my computer desk.

Friday - Another day of very little activity but did walk a few miles in to town and back - felt pretty exhausted by the end of the day, although this is not unusual.

Saturday - A day out at the beach, I combined the effects of the fitflops with lots of walking on the sand. Also walked at least a mile up and down the seafront with baby in pram. My legs were really aching and I am sure I have been using some never used before muscles.

But have they made any difference? Well it is far too early to tell, but they are definitely very comfy and a great summer shoe.

Surrounded by the sea, a marina and a natural beach, Dubai Promenade will offer panoramic views, idyllic walkways, and carefully considered architecture to create a distinctly different residential and commercial environment. And the most extraordinary wheel-shaped luxurious hotel will be an impressive landmark. Although not much is known about this wheeled structure, let me tell you a bit about the Dubai Promenade. Located between Dubai Marina and the seafront , it is adjacent to Dubai International Marine Club resulting in awesome views of The Palm Jumeirah. In addition to a selection of commercial and residential towers, cafes, restaurants and retail offerings will span the length of the entire waterfront.
