Sean Comb’s Sean John line is set to launch a new men’s fragrance in December called I Am King.

Combs commented about the fragrance, “I Am King is a statement about all men. We are all descendents of royalty — and if we carry ourselves and respect ourselves in that manner and believe in ourselves, then we are all kings.”

The notes from I Am King include tangerine zest, orange, cranberry, “a proprietary Imperial French berry note”, kir royal, crème de cassis, premium Champagne, cooling Mediterranean water, key lime pie, lemon cream, labdanum, cedar wood, vetiver, white moss, sandalwood and powdery undertones.

The new fragrance will be available in 50 and 100 ml Eau de Toilette along with grooming products. It will be sold exclusively at Macy’s before being accessible in other stores in February 2009.

Would Warhol approve? I must say, I have never imagined linking Andy Warhol with Perfume, but apparently Bond no. 9 does. And has. In fact, ‘Lexington Ave’ is the third perfume made in inspiration of Warhol — the first being ‘Silver Factory’ and ‘Union Square’.

The bottle has my very favourite Warhol print, “stamped shoes” which originally appeared in the September, 1949 Glamour magazine.

The reason for the shoe-inspired bottle?

“With fanciful shoes the most directional fashion story in recent years,
we found our theme when we discovered the rich lode of phantasmagorical shoes
Warhol created on paper 50 years ahead of their time,” says Bond No. 9’s
Founder and CEO, Laurice Rahme.

If you fancy a spritz of Lexington Ave, you should expect a modern floral woody chypre combined with an epicurean brew of fennel, cardamom, roasted almonds, peony, Florentine orris, creme brulee, patchouli and sandalwood.

Andy Warhol Lexington Avenue will be available in 100ml and 50ml sizes in September and starts at $135.

I had to wait 30 mins for passport photos today (what's with that!) so of course I spent the time (wisely) at Sephora. I had an enthusiastic assistant who danced ahead of me, spraying fragrances on those little scent sticks and making sample sprays of the ones I liked especially.

I'm very picky about scents to begin with and I absolutely have to live with a perfume for a day or two before I know if it's "me", plus my skin tends to turn every fragrance sweeter after the first half hour.

Viktor & Rolf 'Flowerbomb' is my staple right now, but I like to wear different perfumes depending on my mood (and my activities on a given day), so one perfume at a time will not do. Here are the 5 perfumes I liked best:

Burberry The Beat is a vibrant, preppy scent that exudes youthful self-confidence. This would be perfect for those go-go-go days when there's a million things to do — just wearing it would give me energy I think. It's a city scent that's at once modern and clean as well as having a warm, sunny edge. Notes: Bergamot, Cardamom, Pink Pepper, Mandarin, Bluebell, Iris, Ceylon Tea, White Musk, Vetiver, Cedarwood. Escada Moon Sparkle is an exciting, gorgeous scent. At first I thought, "why did they name it sparkle, how dorky", but the scent really is sparkly in the sense that it is new, unexpected, happy, and magical all wrapped into one. It's charismatic and sensuous without being overbearing; a complex joyful scent. (Yeah, you can tell, I loved it). Notes: Strawberry, Blackcurrant, Citrus Cocktail, Raspberry, Red Apple, Rose, Sweet Pea, Freesia, Jasmine, Musky Notes, Sandalwood, Dry Amber. Masaki/Masaki by Masakï Matsushïma is an elegant, refined perfume. Subtly alluring, it whispers sophistication. If you could mix the breeze off Mt. Fuji with the fall of leaves in Paris, that would be this perfume. This perfume is so chic I don't know that I could pull it off without being dressed in an haute couture gown. Some day, I want to be the woman whose signature scent this is. Notes: Litchi, Fuji Apple, Magnolia, Watermelon, Sakura, Angel Face Rose, Passion Fruit, Raspberry, Patchouli, Crystal Musk, White Cedar Wood. Kenzo Peace Vintage Edition is their 20th Anniversary celebration perfume. If a perfume can smell of a color, then this embodies purple. It's like a soft summer night with a sense of mystery: a warm, comfortable and sultry scent, without being overpowering. Notes: Tonka Bean, Vanilla, Heliotrope Flower, Mandarin, Cedar Wood, Musk. Versace Versace is a ladylike tender floral perfume, surprisingly soft and elegant compared to other Versace perfumes which, though I love, often pack a lot of punch. This one made me wish I were a bride, it fairly murmurs of silks and satins and champagne. Notes: Living Dew Drops, Icy Black Currant, Purple Wisteria, White Lilac, Lotus Flower, Living Orchid, Angel White Jasmine, White Lights Azalea, Snowbird Azalea, Musks, Cedar, Cashmirwood, Amberwoods.

Put these on your shortlist for perfumes to sniff next time you're out and about. If you live where trying is impossible and you have to order blind, I'd say if you like preppy go for the Burberry, if you like fruity/happy go for the
Escada, if you like sophisticated, go for the Masakï.

Just in time for the 80th anniversary of Andy Warhol’s birthday (August 6, 1928), Bond No. 9 proudly introduces the third in its series of Warhol eaux de parfum. Its name, Andy Warhol Lexington Avenue, recalls the artist’s formative pre-Pop years in 1950s New York, when he lived in the first of several apartments on Lexington Avenue and plied his trade as a prolific illustrator—mainly of imaginative shoes. Hence the Warhol-designed mélange of exclamation-point heels and high-button boots that covers the flacon. Lush and unapologetically seductive, Andy Warhol Lexington Avenue dares (perhaps for the first time in perfumery) to link two of the most ultra-feminine commodities a woman can own: fragrance and footwear.

The Warhol shoe connection

Back in 1955, in collaboration with Ralph Pomeroy, who wrote the shoe poems, and his mother, Julia Warhola, who did the lettering, Warhol published a little book, A La Recherché du Shoe Perdu, filled with his phantasmagorical illustrations of … shoes, accompanied by riffs such as Beauty is shoe, shoe beauty… (see: Keats’s Ode on a Grecian Urn). Thus did he elevate the status of shoes to poetry.

But why this fascination with footwear?

As a young artist, camped out furniture-less at 242 Lexington Avenue, above a bar called Florence’s Pin-Up, Warhol needed to make a living. Along came I. Miller, the legendary shoe establishment holding court at Fifth Avenue and 57th Street, which chose Warhol to update its image with illustrations for ads that would appear on a regular basis in the New York Times and the Herald Tribune. He complied with what one of his ads called “the Daringest new way to sell shoes”: whimsical displays of the Mod new pointy-toe, spike-heel pumps; he even devised gold-leaf Crazy Golden Slippers for a range of celebrities that included Zsa Zsa Gabor and James Dean. So seriously did Warhol take his shoe illustrations that in 1956 he submitted one of them as a gift to the Museum of Modern Art. (It was rejected.)

The I. Miller illustrations hinted at Warhol’s future. A decade before Pop Art emerged, he was already advancing consumer goods as a worthy subject—perhaps the new subject—of art. What’s more, in these shoe ads he began using repetition to emphasize the product’s allure.
The fragrance

Now, fast-forward to 2008 as Bond No. 9 began developing its third Warhol fragrance (following Silver Factory and Union Square). With fanciful shoes the most directional fashion story in recent years, we found our theme when we discovered the rich lode of phantasmagorical shoes Warhol created on paper fifty years ahead of their time. And we relished the idea of sharing Warhol’s early career with our fragrance-sniffing clientele.

The eau de parfum we concocted is a floral woody chypre (chypre meaning fresh citrus topnotes and a lingering forest-like base) with highly coveted contemporary gourmand notes—a brew of peony, orris, patchouli, sandalwood, cardamom, fennel, almonds, cumin, and even crème brulee. A seductive and intoxicating autumn-winter fragrance, Andy Warhol Lexington Avenue is the perfume equivalent of that rarity, an outrageously luxurious pair of stiletto heels that fit as comfortably as a glove. Wearing the scent, like wearing the shoes, will turn a woman’s walk into a sinuous glide.

“Prophetically, Andy Warhol’s first job upon his arrival to New York City was to illustrate a magazine article entitled ‘Success is a Job in New York,’” said Michael Hermann, Director of Licensing at The Andy Warhol Foundation. “Andy Warhol Lexington Avenue celebrates the fashionable, sophisticated, and successful women of New York City through the whimsical lens of Andy Warhol and his artwork.”

The flacon

Depicted on the Bond No. 9 superstar bottle is a Warholian fantasy collage of shoes and boots, as commissioned by I. Miller, in rich, saturated colors. The overall effect is witty and sophisticated—as assured as the high-stepping optimism of the mid-century America of Warhol’s shoe-illustrating years.

Tattoo guru Ed Hardy is all set to introduce a duo of fragrance called Love & Luck in December of this year. The line of fragrance will be sure to appeal with its striking visual packaging and sensual Japanese tastes.

Love & Luck for Women is soft and elegant with a signature note of cherry blossom. There are also notes of bergamot, blood orange, plum, heart of black currant, pink peppercorn, jasmine petals, musk, cedarwood, sandalwood and patchouli. This combination is sure to create a soft and sensual scent.

Love & Luck for Men is said to have been inspired by Tokyo’s nightlife. With notes of bergamot, orange, mandarin, sage, cypress, violet, cedarwood, and sandalwood, this scent is bright and eclectic.

What is really interesting, and characteristic of Hardy’s edge, is that both the men’s and women’s fragrance have notes of alcohol in them: Red Sake in the women’s and Heart of Absinthe in the men’s.

Ed Hardy has teamed up with designer Christian Audigier once again, as well as Giraudan to make another successful duo of fragrances. These fragrances will be available near in December this year and will be retailing for $55 USD (1.7 oz) and $75 USD (3.4 oz) with matching body products.
