Here is the best of Rio Fashion Week Fashion Shows.

Adriana Degreas Summer 09

Com certeza, Adriana Degreas had the best collection by a stretch. I have been following her for the past few season and she never fails to surprise and impress me with her intricate hand worked poolside swimwear. The muse for this collection seems to have been Brazilian socialite Carmen Mayrink Viega, whose face was printed on a beautiful gold colored silk tunique de plage. Her suits portray the lifestyles of the sexy, rich, and promiscuity through their bold, dark hard lines and the sheer illusions of flesh.

Carlos Miele Summer 09

Naturalmente, Carlos Miele’s presentation was the best of Rio Summer Fashion Week as far as collections go, but Rio Summer fashion is still about swim and we didnt see too much here but what we saw had a very Carlos touch. I love the pebble details on the bikinis and the vest as well as his signature oragami flower crop vest.

Salinas Summer 09

Como sempre, Salinas came out with a great graphic palette. Salinas are the ultimate beach day swimwear company. Their cuts are always extremely flattering and really practical for the all things beach related from tanning to volley ball to surfing. I loved the neck pieces they used in the show and wonder if they will be available for sale in the stores.

Rosa Cha Summer 09

Infelizamente, the best part of the Rosa Cha show was this print and the aquatic runway. I loved the idea of water on an indoor runway to show swimwear collection.

Blue Man Summer 09

E finalmente, nothing really crazy to say about Blue Man, but I was partial to the one earing and the ropes around the hair, which are both staples of mine. I loved these two bathing suits. There was some really nice work that went into making these 2 pieces, incorporating print and embroidery.

Emanuela de Paula flew in from New York especially for the Salinas show yesterday at Rio Summer. She is confirmed for the Victoria's Secret show, which takes place in Miami on November 15.

Calling his son Artis, 18, a "chip off the old block," Cooliosays that he is coming to terms with the fact that his son is pursuing a career path that mirrors his own. "I would prefer him to be a Harvard graduate and go on to win a Nobel Peace Prize, but I don't think that is going to happen," the 45-year-old rapper tells the New York Daily News. Since his family -- which includes Artis' siblings Artisha,20, Brandi,19, and Jackie, 15 -- signed on to appear in the new reality tv show Coolio's Rules, Coolio says he's learned quite a bit about his kids.

"I did not know that my youngest daughter was so camera-shy and I did not know she was thinking about dating boys. And I did not know that my oldest daughter had had a drink of alcohol before. That's a lot to deal with. I try not to judge my kids too harshly, but I'm still their daddy. I feel it hard."

Coolio says that there wasn't much convincing that needed to be done when he was first approached about the show. "I came home and said, 'Listen, people are talking to me about doing a reality show with you guys. Do you want to do it?'" Coolio explained. "They were like, 'Shaka Zulu, Daddy! Let's do it!'" Now that the cameras have become a fixture in their home Coolio says that what viewers are seeing is real -- both the good, and the bad.

"Me and my kids have our ups and downs, but ultimately we love each other. We can be dysfunctional, but we're nowhere near as dysfunctional as some other people."

Artisha, Brandi, Jackie, and Artis are Coolio's children with ex-wife Josefa Salinas. Coolio's Rules airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. on the Oxygen network.

Seventeen designers will participate in the first edition of the event, showing exclusive summer collections at Forte de Copacabana, one of my favorite locations in Rio. Because most labels have already shown collections back in June, designers had to create a new line for Rio Summer. Top models such as Izabel Goulart, Michelle Alves, Isabeli Fontana, Fernanda Tavares, and Jeísa, have already been confirmed. Emanuela de Paula has been released by Victoria's Secret to do the Salinas show on the 6th, flying back to New York immediately afterwards. Designer Valentino and model Natalia Vodianova will be flying in as guests, and stay at the Fasano in Ipanema.

As much as I hope Rio Summer will succeed in its first edition, the scheduling of the shows in November is a strange concept for me. Most international buyers are done with summer purchases by now, and resort is still a long way to go. And then of course there is the current state of the economy which wasn't on the schedule.

Rapper Artis Leon Ivey Jr. -- better known as Coolio -- has already shared how he feels about handing out credit cards to his four children and now is laying down the law for any of his daughters' future suitors. While his girls -- Artisha, 20, Brandi, 19, and Jackie, 15 -- could understandably argue that their dad's rules seem to be a double-standard, Coolio says "I pay the bills, I make the rules" which means "it's do as I say, not as I do."

With that philosophy, the 45-year-old -- who would be willing to "do the rest of my life in prison if you mess with my kids" -- warns any young men to not have any expectations from his daughters. "I tell them don't come around here trying to get nothing you ain't getting at home. First of all, you ain't going to get it," says Coolio. However, the doting dad tries not to be too intimidating and will "get my pit bull and we walk around the block" while his daughters are spending time with their friend, but that doesn't mean that he doesn't keep his girls on their toes!

"I don't sit there and watch over them, but the other day, I walked in the living room, and Artisha was sitting on some dude's lap, I was like, 'Oh, hell no.' She just sat there, so I picked up one of the legs from the pool table and said, 'You better get up right now.' She was like, 'I'm 20-years-old!' I was like you better get yourself a 20-year-old house then!"

Artisha, Brandi, Jackie, and son Artis, 18, are Coolio's children with ex-wife Josefa Salinas. Coolio's new reality series -- appropriately called Coolio's Rules -- airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. on the Oxygen network.

Juergen touches on the futility of it all--of trying to look beautiful, the futility of trying to keep up your sagging breasts or of fitting into a certain dress. So much fashion photography builds this false sense and maintains the myth. Juergen's pictures cut through all that, but they're not depressing. What's really depressing is not Juergen's pictures, but the mindless objectification of women as clothes hangers who pose and wear clothes, but there's nothing to the picture apart from that it's a sales tool.

Of course, how many of W's editorials propagate and fuel that "myth"--or show models not as people but as a thing used to move merchandise?

I thought Mareen Tkacik's (aka Moe from Jezebel) piece on the rivalry between fashion editors Nina Garcia and Anne Slowey was dishy fun. Too bad about the controversy. I don't think, however, it puts Slowey in a bad light. She quotes James Boswell, read Ulysses in a bathtub, and isn't a size 0. What's not to love?

But then, there are the editorials... I mean, I know New York isn't a fashion magazine and all, but, an ostentatious fur paired with gold lamé American Apparel leggings? Seriously? My boyfriend wrote about some of the other editorials, but I just want to say I'm tired of photographers and fashion editors employing gimmickry --and relying to much on Photoshop in the process--in an attempt to distinguish their work; it strips away all the beauty and humanity from the subjects. Juergen Teller would not approve.

At a press conference in Rio yesterday, Nizan Guanaes said that the event will cost R$10 million, and that 100 international buyers and editors have been invited to attend. The entire Fasano Hotel is booked for members of the press and celebrities invited. Valentino has already confirmed that he will be there for the shows and the parties. Ms. Wintour has also been invited.

Some of the brands which will be showing at Rio Summer include Blue Man, Cia Marítima, Jo de Mer, Rosa Chá, Salinas, Lenny, Osklen, and Totem. Even though many of them have already showed in São Paulo, designers promised an exclusive collection for the event.

Fans of reality television can add another show to their roster -- Coolio's Rules will debut on the Oxygen network this fall. The series will chronicle the lives of rapper Coolio, 44, and his six children including son Artis and daughters Jackie, Brandi and Artisha, the four of whom recently participated in a press conference to announce the show. At the event, Coolio was asked if he's given his kids credit cards.  His answer? "Hell to the no!"  He added,

We’d be living downtown in a cardboard box. I give them cash. Sometimes I take them shopping. Most often not. I’m not cheap, but I’m thrifty.

The children are Coolio's with ex-wife Josefa Salinas.
