We have now spotted a vivid blue/black colorway of the Air Jordan 1. Unfortunately, this specific colorway is limited to only Girls GS (Grade School).

The vivid blue color is located on toe box, swoosh, and heel. The most interesting feature on this sneaker is the colorful pattern design on the inside of the sneaker’s collar. This shoe is also complimented by a white midsole. Check your local select Jordan retailers for these in three weeks. Are we prisoners of fashion dictates, or could we consider co-creating new looks with minimal expense? How can local fashion designers sustain themselves by working around and within global and local market forces?

Through aggressive marketing, our individual identity can become effaced by homogenised clothing, a veneer that suggests we are part of a recognisable whole. Trend forecasters, retailers and brand conglomerates launching new styles, fabrics, cuts and colours stoke the coals of peer pressure that conditions us to be seen in the latest ranges. As social beings, we are construed as a collective commodity travelling in a continuum of design renovation that is dictated by a few but embraced by the masses, often with little thought to suitability or personal imagination.

Being seen in the right brand wearing the "in" label of a particular designer neutralises our individuality and leads to a contradiction of the purpose of fashion: individual style portraying human uniqueness; instead, we become fashion clones.

By conforming to seasonal trends, are we not impeding the innovation and growth of young fashion designers emerging in the market? There are a few designers who have created distinctive aesthetics and have steadily built a brand following. These looks are not confined to the examples seen on catwalks at Fashion Weeks events; idiosyncratic, semi-mass-produced, wearable garments are also available.

The old saying, "catch them when they are young" can be applied to fashion education. For example, when experts visit fashion colleges and advise students on the latest European trends - as if these are the unassailably essential forms of good design and as such, critical to design success - are we not diluting their imaginative resources?

Both student and established designers are required to be in touch with global fashion directions, but is it a prerequisite to emulate these trends without any re-interpretation? The colours for 2009 are, according to the style forecasters, moving away from metallic finishes to a more earthy, subdued colour palette; ripped denim might resurge, and for younger women, appropriation of men's jeans (known as "The Boyfriend Jeans") will be in vogue and Deep-V-T-shirts and jerseys could be the 2009 new style for men.

We need to respect the genius of our learner designers, and support them in steering away from reliance on European trends. This information is available for reference, so rather than delivering lectures on trend templates, their curricula should cover instruction in sourcing, assimilating, and interpreting the data, with a view to redefining trends in the local context and according to their own design sensibilities.

Over the Thanksgiving weekend, all of the Jordan Brand members had at least two games; and most of them had at least six rings (not literally). To kick off December, our Kicks On Court (KOC) spotted most of the JB members hooping in Jordan 6 Rings PEs. Players such as Ray Allen, Mike Bibby, Joe Johnson, and Quentin Richardson all sported this love/hate sneaker. Click the jump to view enlarged pictures of each player in the Jordan 6 Rings. Who sported the best colorway?

We also spotted Chris Paul wearing the Air Jordan 23 ‘Carolina Blue’ PE. This colorway, plus the Motorsports and Chicago Bulls colorways, hit the retailers this past weekend. In addition, check out the kicks Allen Iverson hooped in at the expense of resting the Reebok Answer 12. The society says it has found 12 examples over a three year period. Garments purported to be fake fur are actually made from the fur of the raccoon dog, a canine indigenous to Asia. Here's an interesting note: after Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger got a letter from Humane Society, they stopped selling fur altogether.

Nike rings in the new year with some nice designs. This Nike Footscape collection is due for sale in 2009. Nike was pleased with the Footscape Wovens in 2008 so they have decided to continue some more Woven shoes for 2009. Nike and Hiroshi Fujiwara created these two latest wovens. One colorway is in neon yellow, while the other is in neon orange. The prices and details may become available later at the Nike retailers.

The neon orange looks more striking. The white toe box bears the Nike swoosh. The shoe lace panel has been laid a little to the side of the shoe, and is curved. The mesh tongue in a complimentary orange is perfect for displaying one of the traditional lacing patterns used in Nike shoes. The lace winds through the braces like a snake. The black braces are color coordinated with the panel at the back of the heel. The Nike tag at the tip of the tongue follows the curvature of the tongue and is laid to one side. The white midsole looks good on the colored shoe upper. The outsole is black. The inner lining is also black.

The neon yellow has a grey colored toe box. All other features are identical to its neon orange counterpart.

*Twas the month before Christmas*

*When all through our land,*

*Not a Christian was praying*

*Nor taking a stand.*

*See the PC Police had taken away,*

*The reason for Christmas - no one could say.*

*The children were told by their schools not to sing,*

*About Shepherds and Wise Men and Angels and things.*

*It might hurt people's feelings, the teachers would say*

* December 25th is just a ' Holiday '.*

*Yet the shoppers were ready with cash, checks and credit*

*Pushing folks down to the floor just to get it!*

*CDs from Madonna, an X BOX, an I-pod*

*Something was changing, something quite odd! *

*Retailers promoted Ramadan and Kwanzaa*

*In hopes to sell books by Franken & Fonda.*

*As Targets were hanging their trees upside down*

* At Lowe's the word Christmas - was no where to be found.*

*At K-Mart and Staples and Penny's and Sears*

*You won't hear the word Christmas; it won't touch your ears.*

*Inclusive, sensitive, Di-ver-si-ty*

*Are words that were used to intimidate me.*

*Now Daschle, Now Darden, Now Sharpton, Wolf Blitzen*

*On Boxer, on Rather, on Kerry, on Clinton !*

*At the top of the Senate, there arose such a clatter*

*To eliminate Jesus, in all public matter.*

*And we spoke not a word, as they took away our faith*

* Forbidden to speak of salvation and grace*

*The true Gift of Christmas was exchanged and discarded*

*The reason for the season, stopped before it started.*

*So as you celebrate 'Winter Break' under your 'Dream Tree'*

*Sipping your Starbucks, listen to me.*

*Choose your words carefully, choose what you say*

*Shout MERRY CHRISTMAS ,

not Happy Holiday !*

So here is an in depth look at the LeBron’s Big Apples (pause).

The Nike LeBron VI “Big Apple” is covered in candy apple red perforated leather, in honor of one of LeBron’s favorite cities, New York City. The candy apple red sits atop a unique speckled midsole, and has the LeBron lion head logo on the tongue. The LeBron VI “Big Apple” dropped today at select retailers in NYC, including ARC, Niketown, and House of Hoops for $140.

These are possibly the best colorway of the LeBron VI, and with Spike Lee getting in on the action, you know these are must have’s for serious collectors.

Closer look after the jump provided by Gradient Magazine.
