In the comment area type “enter me” This giveaway will run from November 30th through December 6th!

Good Luck! There will be two lucky winners.

Cherry Blossom Bags (No. 113)

These bags were inspired by the delicate majesty of the Japanese cherry blossoms in Washington, DC. The 3,000 original trees were gifted by the people of Tokyo in 1912. Every Spring at the beginning of April we wait for the pale pink and white blossoms to open. Then we hope for warm weather and no wind so they will last as long as possible. www.NationalCherryBlossomFestival.org

The aesthetic of these bags is retro and chic: they are reminiscent of the sleek lines found in antique Chinese porcelains or silk brocades. The bag comes in two sizes and a number of colorways. One will be right just for you!

Pattern Difficulty Level: Intrepid Beginner to Intermediate. Requires knowledge of knitting, purling, increasing, decreasing, and knitting in the round on circular and double-pointed needles.

Flamenco Bag (No. 126)
- So Easy, So Noni! -

The flamenco bag is a medium-sized bag that was inspired by the luxurious skirts worn by the flamenco dancer. This bag gives the impression of romance and movement even when sitting on a table. It is a roomy bag that can go anywhere, from the park, to a fancy evening out.

Even though the bags look very sleek and high end, the felting and finishing is quick and easy. Simply hand sew the felt “flaps” over the snap handle structure (available from Noni, from Lacis, or from Sunbelt), snap closed, and walk out the door. If you like, add JUL Silver “Red Beauty” Bronze, Silver & Cornelian bag feet to the Red Flamenco bags or “Black Beauty” Silver & Onyx bag feet to the Blue Flamenco bag for a wonderfully luxurious finished look. Also look for Noni pockets, 100% silk pockets available in 7 colors: 2 zippered pockets and a cell phone pouch you can simply sew into your bag. Instant (and beautiful) functionality for any bag!

Just kidding, they didn’t. But they did walk around all dolled up, tall dark guy in beenie in tow, for paparazzi shots. I mean, it is Thanksgiving, no reason to allow some random pardoned turkey to get all the attention today. I hope Kim doesn’t do too much damage at Thanksgiving dinner, I like the shape, but you know what I mean…..

More pictures of Kim and Kourtney Kardashian….

Accepted a pretty cool Structure shirt (yeah remember Express before it was Express) and that quickly became a mad grab for everything in the closet. Was “gifted” a couple of random ties and the following jackets, I gave back the jackets.

Becks got her old coats back and I discovered the horrors of her sweet 16 dress. Picts below. Enjoysies.

I can't remember when I first heard that Karen Elson was opening up a vintage shop in Nashville--it was a while ago though and I've been anxious to go, especially since Nashville isn't all that far from where my family lives. Karen Elson was one of my favorite models from the time I first got into fashion back in 2000 or so; her marriage to Jack White and her appearances with the Citizen's Band and as a Lula girl have only made me like her more. So I was extra excited when I did a random search on her and her shop today and came across this Pipeline post and discovered that her store Venus and Mars (run with local vintage seller Amy Patterson) has been open for a month now. My sisters Ashley and Lauren, my brother-in-law Danny the Antagonizer, and Kumar and I all jumped in the car and headed to Nashville for the day.

To tell you the truth we were half just going so that we might be able to sneak a peak of Karen or Jack. The words "rare high-end vintage duds" in the Pipeline article made my expectations for the store and hopes of being able to afford anything sort of low. We never did see Jack or Karen, but Lauren and I did end up buying a few things. The prices of most of the pieces there were surprisingly low for such a prettily put-together and organized store. The colors were dark and a bit '20s cabaret-like, complete with little chandeliers, a hazily lit dressing room, and big glass cases filled with old rhinestone jewelry and an old feather headdress or two. (on top of that glass case was a book of old movie fan magazine articles that I've checked out and have been tempted to steal many a time from the library. I don't think it was for sale, but it was pretty fitting)

I ended up buying a leaf-print dress and the perfect little 1950s white blouse--I'll show you them later! For now here are a few pictures of my sisters and my brother-in-law in the store . . . (Danny made me get a photo of him brushing his beard with an old bakelite brush, but it didn't turn out, sadly)

Time for another Thursday/Friday Thigh Off. It’s a battle between the leggy and the leggier this week.

Come on in and share your quadrific analysis.

This week’s Thigh Off is brought to you by ONTD Football.

It’s been a busy week for us at Kickette HQ: The Virgin Bojan’s got a potty mouth, Fernando Torres is injured again, our unofficial community posterboy and mushroom-hater Cesc was named Capitán Fabulous (Fabrelous? Fabugas?) of Arsenal, and… Champions League matches! Please tell us you watched the arctic Real Madrid v BATE Borisov game and saw Iker, erm, adjusting himself before a goal kick… Mmph.

Once in a while, it’s important to take a breather and remember what’s important before you lose sight of things. Work, college, shopping, running out of room on your TiVO/SkyPlus/television recording equivalent because you’ve got too many footie matches, the credit crrrunch, people leaving empty milk cartons in the fridge, sleeping through all four of your morning alarms, some random stepping on your stilettos, relationship drama with your stalker of choice, these are all stressful obstacles in the journey of life.

Allow us to help. Though we may hail from all around the globe, we can all take a time out to make a little American Spanksgiving detour. Let’s send a quick prayer of thanks for what’s truly important in life to the big guy in the net, San Iker.

Hallowed San Iker, guardian of goal,
Give us this Thursday our weekly thigh,
So muscley and delish,
Our mouths go dry.
Hallowed San Iker, with your magnificent nose,
Thank you for thine blessing o’ thigh,
For the Thigh Off this week, these are the studs we chose:

First, ladies (and possible lurking curious gentlemen): Fernando Llorente Torres (what is it with Spain and tall, hunky forwards named Fernando Torreses?!). A striker for the Basque side Athletic Bilbao, he’s six feet and five inches(!) of legginess, blond curls, and virtuoso clarinet skills. And, we don’t doubt that he’s also done time as some sort of Abercrombie & Fitch model.

—

Next, Emmanuel Adebayummy. He’s an equally leggy Togolese striker who helps to up the Arsenal sexyfactor. He’s the star of countless hilarious Youtube gems (look at us sneaking in our daily dose of Hleb!) and daaang, boy’s got moves. He scores a lotta goals, too…

Mmm. Tall thigh. Happy voting.

Congrats to last week’s winner who took it by a chest hair - Zinedine Zidane narrowly won over Luis Figo’s awesome thigh power. Congrats!

I've never really bought into the whole one-day-a-year-to-give-thanks thing. It's a nice idea, but. . . well, doesn't giving thanks feel like something one should do a bit more often? Gala and the iCiNG community do this every Thursday, and even though I don't participate on my blog, I like to keep the "Things I Love Thursday" badge on my sidebar to show my support and whatnot. But, since today is both Thanksgiving and a Thursday, I think it's time to run the first ever Fashion-y Blog TILT. It will be body-related and not in list form, but it's a TILT all the same. Can you dig it?

Today I am thankful for my appearance. It sounds vain, I know, and it pretty much is, but let me explain.

This photo is a bit of an older one (hence the bangs and sandals that would allow for frostbite should I wear them now); details on the outfit can be found here.

Over the past few years, I've become a lot more comfortable with my body. I was never one of those girls who stands in front of the mirror for the sole purpose of bashing every body part, but I've definitely had a mental list of my physical "flaws"at any given time - large nose, knobby knees, a non-flat stomach, over-large boobs - but nothing I've ever found particularly horrific. It may seem weird to list those "flaws" here where everyone can look at my photos and critique how I look, but the fact is I've been appreciating these so-called physical imperfections a lot more lately. Large nose? Not such a deformity after all. Gives my face character, I think. Knobby knees? I think I'm the only one who even notices these, to be honest. I am now nonplussed by them. Non-flat stomach? It's not really natural for most women to have flat stomachs. Even with large amounts of exercise I've never been able to achieve this, because it's a tiny curve I'm meant to have. And curves are a pleasing shape, after all. And my boobs? Again, curves are pleasing to the eye. I think I like 'em after all, even if they make bikini shopping quite difficult.

Yes, I feel a little awkward having written about my chest size knowing that classmates, family members, friends, and the like read this, but I'll let it be. Not something to be embarassed about, really. I've been thinking a lot about body image and how it shouldn't be considered vain or taboo to appreciate the way we look in all its uniqueness. Why should it be? Isn't it a much healthier mindset to find the beauty in ourselves and be proud of that than to be vocal about our hated features while keeping quiet about our loved features? I think so. And for that matter, since I'm spewing out random thoughts as it is, I wish compliments could be given more freely in our society. I often compliment strangers on their clothing or accessories, which never fails to elicit a smile and some friendly vibes (if not friendly conversation), but why is it inappropriate to tell a stranger, "Hi, I just wanted to say I think you have the most amazing legs"? Why can't we receive compliments like these without feeling overly scrutinized or hit on? The fact is, we all notice the way people look, albeit not to the same degree we notice our personal appearances, and it would be good for us to be more vocal about this in a positive way when we live in a society full of eating disorders, idolized stick-thin models, and obesity.

For now, I stick to the safe appearance-related compliments when I want to brighten someone else's day. Eyes and hair, folks, eyes and hair.

I would also like to add that, having spent the last 20 minutes or so ranting about body image, I think the preoccupation our society has with physical appearance is kind of ridiculous. Let's also take the time to appreciate the fact that our bodies are the vessels that keep us alive, that they pump blood, take in oxygen, fight illness, allow us to move and think and experience joy, and generally give us everything we have.

That's my long, rambling, tangent-filled TILT. I hope it didn't make me sound disgustingly positive, disgustingly appearance-obsessed, or disgustingly vain.

What do you love and appreciate about your body? It's a great exercise to list your "flaws" and then think of reasons to appreciate them, but I would also love to hear about what you find absolutely gorgeous about yourself. A collection of positive comments always seems to induce extreme happiness (another reason why Miss Gala's site is so fantastic), so let's make it happen. Go forth and comment, anonymously if you so choose, or proudly under your name. I am thankful for this in advance, haha.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! Have a good night! And if you want more positive reading material, check out SARK. I'm currently reading her book Succulent Wild Woman (in tandem with Joseph Campbell's fascinating The Power of Myth, which you should also take a look at) and wow is that woman incredible.

Close this LOS ANGELES, California—This is the hot young actor that girls are screaming their tonsils out for?

Some reporters couldn’t reconcile Robert Pattinson who looked like he just got out of bed, his hair a thick mess, with the buzz—screaming hysteria, to be more specific—proclaiming him as Hollywood’s new “It Guy.” But when we first interviewed him on the set of “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” in the UK several years ago, we knew it was only a matter of time before Robert graduated from small roles like Cedric Diggory to a star-launching gig like “Twilight.” Tall, blessed with patrician good looks, Robert stood out among the “Harry Potter” cast.

Kristen Stewart offered the most astute observation about her “Twilight” co-star: “Rob is very organic. He’s in the moment and he lets it happen which is brave ... He’s a courageous actor.”

As predicted, “Twilight,” where Robert and Kristen play Edward and Bella, respectively in the film adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s hit novel of the same name, topped the box-office last weekend. The movie about a high school girl who falls in love with a vampire grossed over $70 million.

Below are excerpts of our separate interviews with Robert and Kristen.

Robert Pattinson

How would you describe your life now?

I’ve been involved in “Twilight” all year now. I’ve been doing press for several weeks so I haven’t really had time to reflect on what my life actually is. It would be very strange being locked in a thing where I go into lots of different rooms and lots of little girls scream at me all the time (laughter). I would probably get old after a while. I think 32 is going to be my year. That’s the year I’ve always been looking forward to. I don’t know why (laughter).

How old are you now?

Twenty-two.

This movie is about obsessive love. Have you ever experienced it?

Yeah, sort of. I remember there was a girl I was totally obsessed with for about 10 years.

Ten years is a long time.

Yeah, but it’s like I never ever spoke to her. I think that’s the best type of love (laughter). I remember when reading my diaries from the time—whenever anything else would mess up with a girl, I’d be like, she’d better be worth it. When it happens, you can always have this kind of hope and then when I finally told her she was like, “You’ve never spoken to me in my whole life. You’ve only spoken to me about three times and never said anything nice (laughter).”

Are you still in a band?

I was in a band years ago. Not like a proper band but I had kind of roll-on, roll-off musicians. I still try and play but it’s weird now since when I’m trying to do it as an actor, it always seems kind of cheesy. I liked playing at open mikes in bars and stuff because it was the only time I really felt free. I did a couple of gigs in LA and people filmed and put them on the Internet. It just ruins the whole experience. You’re like “Oh, that wasn’t the point.” So I stopped. I’m going to wait for all this to die down before I start doing live gigs again.

What is your home life like?

In LA, it basically consists of waiting for my phone to ring (laughter), reading scripts and that’s about it (laughter). In London, I could replace scripts for books and I just watch a lot of movies. I have very few hobbies (laughter).

Can you tell us more about your family background?

My dad is from Yorkshire and he did a bunch of things. In the ’70s, he moved to America for a bit and just worked as a taxi driver. Then he started selling cars in the ’80s. My mom worked as a booker at a modeling agency and now they’re both retired. My mom, sisters and I speak really well. My parents were just very aware of how you’re treated differently in the world if you speak articulately. So it was just the way I was brought up.

Do you believe in having a soul mate?

I hope there is such a thing. I guess it would be quite scary to find a soul mate when you’re young because you’re probably going to mess it up (laughter).

How have you embraced the thought that you’re a sex symbol now?

It’s strange because I’m a sex symbol to 14-year-old girls (laughter) which I guess is not the most helpful situation to be in. But yeah, I’ve never really thought of it. It’s just so funny. I mean, just last year I couldn’t even get a date (laughter) and then this year, the world turns and it’s so bizarre (laughter) that everybody just changes their mind at the same time (laughter).

You couldn’t get a date?

When I was in London, it was like, not at all. I don’t know why. That’s all I talked about the whole of last year—that I need to get a girlfriend. I need to get a girlfriend and then this year, I could have any 12-year-old I wanted (laughter).

What do you look for in a girl?

I’m always shocked by the people who I’m attracted to. It’s always completely random. I generally like people who are a bit crazy but yeah, that’s pretty much my only prerequisite.

You get to run up a tree, among other special things. How did you achieve some of these effects?

I can’t even walk in a straight line so it was very tough doing all that type of stuff. It was designed like in a kung fu movie in a lot of sequences. That was tough—virtually anything to do on a harness because you have to exert so much effort just maintaining your center of gravity. It’s tougher especially when you have to make it look effortless and not breath as well (laughter). That was probably the hardest thing I had to do in the movie.

How long did you rehearse for stunts that required wire work?

Not a huge amount of time. About two weeks, I guess, and I had to do a ton of it as well.

What kind of music do you listen to?

I don’t know much about contemporary music. I do have an iPod but I listen to a lot of old blues. I listen to John Lee Hooker and Elmore James. I have been listening to them for years. I was obsessed with Van Morrison for years. I went to see him recently where he performed “Astral Weeks.” I just spent the entire night crying (laughter) but I was really obsessed with Van Morrison.

Were you a rebellious teenager?

I really wasn’t very much of a rebel. I’m seen by people now as more of a rebel which is strange. I don’t like doing what people tell me to do. I don’t deliberately rebel against them.

How did you evoke sexiness in this role?

A lot of it has to do with not speaking—like that always makes somebody more attractive. I wasn’t really trying to play Edward as a sexy guy, though. He’s not very sexy in the book. It’s like he’s just kind of mysterious and his whole personality works from a template. So it creates more mystery and whatever he says seems very contrived. He always has a completely opposite thought to what he’s saying in his head. He’s always hiding things. A lot of the attraction to someone is always frustration and that’s what a lot of the story is.

What concerns you most about this sudden fame?

When something or someone is hyped and you’re put on the forefront of a lot of things, people want to tear you down. That’s kind of scary, especially when you’re not really putting yourself out there.

Kristen Stewart

Have you had crushes that became obsessions?

I feel like most crushes are fairly obsessive—for me at least. I have experienced them.

At what age?

Oh my God, I started having some crushes on people when I was five, I think (laughter).

Your character kind of takes care of her mom. How is your own relationship with your mother?

My mom is a momma bear. She’s the caretaker but in a sort of nonmaternal way. I have a lot of brothers who aren’t my biological brothers. We take in strays but I’m friends with my mom. The one thing that Bella is not getting from her mom is that her mother is not being a mom. She’s just a buddy and you don’t need a friend in a mom always. I mean, that could be a good part of it but you need more than that and I have both parts in my mom.

Tell us more about your mother taking in strays. That sounds exciting.

She’s just taking in friends that I’ve acquired who just don’t have it easy in their own homes. That’s really great. I just did a movie called “Welcome to the Rileys” where I play a homeless kid. She’s squatting in a house at the time that you see her in the movie. She’s essentially homeless and it’s this entire counterculture that I was completely unaware of—runaways and people, kids particularly, who live on the streets.

So your mother rehabilitates them and they go back…

No, these are my brothers. We keep them. These are my best friends (laughter). Yeah, we keep them.

What did Robert bring to the table? How did you arrive at that chemistry between the two of you?

Rob came into the audition looking sort of terrified, like a subdued fear and pained. The pain was just very evident in him. I am not saying it’s in Rob but he knew what to bring to that character. We didn’t need the statuesque, model-types who come in and just pose. I couldn’t see any of the other guys. They weren’t even looking at me. It was like they were focusing on their lines but Rob is very organic. He’s in the moment and he lets it happen which is brave. He’s brave. He’s a courageous actor.

How much training did you have to undergo for the stunts which required wire work?

I didn’t have much training. I was trained to hold onto Rob (laughter). It was like I didn’t really have to do much else. I was always trying to make it easier for him because he’s always found it very difficult. I was always trying to find points to take the pressure off of him.

We had to climb a tree once on a wire in the ballet studio at the end of the movie. It’s a pretty rigorous fight scene and there were a couple of times where he goes to pick me up. The first time he pulled his groin so they put me on a wire and we had to go up to the balcony. Then James (played by Cam Gigandet) pulls him down and I smack the floor and roll to a mark. Hitting the mark was really difficult and there was glass all over the floor. It was fake glass but it can cut you. I enjoy stuff like that. I really like physicality. I really think it’s fun.
