In my teens and my 20s I wanted to change the world. Now I want to keep telling some beautiful stories … but a lot of me is about just getting to my family. Wherever your loved ones are is your home. I consider myself to be a citizen of the world.”

Nic will soon hit the red carpet for the Paris premiere for the Baz Luhrmann epic Australia.

Seasons come and go and fashion changes in a very quick way but we want to be stylish and trendy all the time. Winters are boring and cold, there are no opportunities to show either your beautiful body or colourful makeup, that is why I highly recommend you to enjoy the following information and find the latest winter 2009 fashion trends:

FUR & FEATHERS

Sad to say it, but fur enemies seemed to defeat the battle – fur is on track again and it is popular than ever before. Fur looks chic and and glam, what is more it is warm. Fur makes a Queen out of any women. If you don’t feel like wearing a completely fur coat think of buying a leather coat with a fur collar. And what about feathers? They make us think of swans and graceful birds, so feather details on dresses and skirts are the key feature to create an elegant look.

MILITARY LOOK

Yeah, I perfectly remember that military theme was hot this autumn, but I am extremely glad to announce it once again – it is very hot in winter 2009 as well. I even can’t explain this phenomenon but military style looks amazing and sexy on women.

BOHEMIAN VIBES

Loose things, boho items, folk-inspired clothes, Russian-like details and rock ornaments …

Afterwards, Robert was stopped on the street by a young fan. Of course, he kindly stopped to pose for a quick pic.

Later in the evening, Robert picked up some off-the-menu options at the In-N-Out drive-through. He chowed down in his car and stopped at a gas station, where he threw out his burger trash. Robert then picked up a case of Heineken beer and headed home.
<!--

Click here to buy Cranium Hullabaloo

Hullabaloo will get the whole family moving. As kids ages four and up bounce, spin, and jump between the colorful pads, they'll learn new shapes, colors, and words. They'll also hone their listening skills --especially when they "freeze" and wait to see if they're a winner at the end. Though it's geared towards kids ages four and up, even two-year olds will want to play along. Though younger kids might not "get" everything, they'll still have a great time -- especially dancing to the "funky" music at the beginning and end of each quick-moving round. Though kids can play Hullaballoo among themselves, parents will enjoy the silliness and the exercise!

Easy to Learn; Fun to Play
The Hullaballo console is made of sturdy plastic with brightly-colored buttons that are easy for little fingers to find. Batteries aren't included and parents will need to put those in with the help of a screwdriver before play can start. The easy-to-read, illustrated instructions tell you how to play the game, which is a snap to learn. The console also clearly announces the rules of the game each time you turn it on. (It also plays a bouncy song at the beginning of each round that will stick in your head long after the game is over.)

Do a Funky Dance!
The talking musical console adds an element of excitement and unpredicability to the game. You never know what it will tell you to do next! The catchy music and the instructions to "do a funky dance!" at the end of the rounds especially appeal to kids. (Later, when you're not even playing the game, you can say, "Do a funky dance!" and they'll start dancing excitedly all over again.) The pleasing pallette of colors in Hullabaloo are appealing to the eye, from the purple, green, and red console to the multicolored play pads with their slightly retro images. These brightly-colored, sizeable play pads are hard to lose.Yet they are also easy to put away when the game is over.

Jigsaw, the fashion store with the kooky windows and magnificent changing rooms. It’s one of those stores you probably often walk past, have a quick peek through the windows but rarely go in. It is though a fantastic fashion retailer and now it’s online!

Whether it’s cute dresses, soft knitwear or stunning leather goods, Jigsaw is the place. It has a real country feel, an approachable elegance. It’s certainly the place if you’re feeling an Edge of Love style homage or to keep on trend with Gucci’s folkloric inspired looks.

Now with its’ online store, there is no reason not to fall in love with Jigsaw, check out the muted mustards and teals for an on trend look. I am loving the black chiffon French knot dress and the tweed mini skirt. Sadly the footwear is not available online, because Jigsaw shoes are incredible. But they have a great range of super soft leather bags. The knee-high socks are a real nod to Prada and they would make a fab stocking filler or a treat for yourself.

If you prefer to get more mileage out of your wardrobe then definitely head to Jigsaw, it’s great quality and will remain on trend for years to come thanks to it’s classic styling.

Last week Monday, TJ Maxx put up thirteen reputable bloggers for a daylong event at their Farmingdale, MA (near Boston) offices to demystify the world of off-price retail. No magazine editors—just bloggers and it felt empowering for our medium.

Chatting with the likes of <a href="http://www.shoesmitten.com/blog/" target=blank">Shoe Smitten’s Anna Basham, <a href="http://www.the-fashion-bomb.com/" target=blank">Fashion Bomb’s Adriana Nova and the lovely duo of <a href="http://www.youlookfab.com/" target=blank">Angie and Greg Cox of You Look Fab let me know that there are likeminded bloggers passionate about style and fashion!

On the evening prior to the fun-packed proceedings I’m soon to speak of, TJ Maxx put us up in the impressive Fairmont Copley Plaza for the night, (I didn’t get any personal pictures sift through the site for your own viewing pleasure) and took us for a bite to eat at <a href="http://www.skipjacks.com/" target=blank">Skipjacks. Both the hotel and dinner were a fantastic prelude to Tuesday’s activities which saw the TJ Maxx President, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Manager of Media Relations spend their time unravelling TJ Maxx’s elusive business structure for us bloggers.

For a few of us, myself included, the world of off-price retail was a mystery. The mantra behind the fashionomics (as TJ Maxx so eloquently terms it) of off-price retail is simple: selling clothing and accessories from major-label brands at low prices. The economics is even simpler by virtue of

1. the solid relationship TJ Maxx’s buyers have with a plethora of vendors the world over.

2. the opportunistic buying strategies TJ Maxx employs in favour of more traditional department store methods of buying.

When a department store reneges on orders due to poor sales or errs in forecasting trends, overrun is the end result and this excess product is snapped up by TJ Maxx from vendors at a slashed price. In turn, this marked down price TJ Maxx receives is generously extended onto the consumer in the form of close to rock-bottom prices for choice, high-end items. Moreover, this expedient type of buying occurs year-round unlike department stores that purchase merchandise seasonally so you, as the consumer, never really miss a beat. Now if you can wrap your head around this concise little spiel, then you have a firm hold on the nuts and bolts of off-price retailing.

The model however does have an adverse effect. Karen Coppola, the Senior Vice President of Marketing, spoke of the negative perceptions TJ Maxx receives when it’s pitted alongside discount or high-end department stores. Quite frankly, I can admit to having a difficult time putting my finger on which category TJ Maxx falls under. Is it a discount store? Well, technically yes when you can score a purple silk Marc Jacobs’ dress for $79.99!

Does TJ Maxx compare to Macy’s, Nordstrom or Neiman Marcus? Naysayers are quick to disagree and quip about the quality and the brands at TJ Maxx being comparable to Walmart. Granted, less than five percent of TJ Maxx’s merchandise has unnoticeable irregularities, a minute hallmark the company has been unable to shake over the years.

However, the fact is that carrying a characteristically prim Marc Jacobs dress or a cream and black Michael Kors tunic dress is not mark of a fashionably fledgling brand and when TJ Maxx can afford to stock the likes of Catherine Malandrino, Vera Wang, Versace and a host of other high-end brands, it’s kind of a slap in the face to be contrasted stores such as Walmart and a slight to be excluded from the rung of high-end department stores.

Despite the misconceptions, none of these issues truly faze TJ Maxx. They take pleasure in their gutsy off-price business model and it came across in each respective presentation made by the executives.

All this talk of off-price retailing was capped off with a themed game titled the “The Price Is Right” in which items from TJ Maxx were modelled and we all had to guess the price to claim each coveted item. As a man amongst women, the odds were stacked against me. Pregame jitters got the best of me as I overshot my first four guestimates by a good $100. Nerves were one thing, but I was equally hard done by the fact that some of the prices were just too good to be true. Eventually I nabbed a Michael Kors bejewelled tunic dress that was originally priced at $157. My guess: $49.99!

Afterwards we were off to do some heavy duty taste-testing at the TJ Maxx outlets just beside their headquarters. Having already spoiled us (the swanky hotel, the care packages filled with goodies, and the giveaways) our hosts granted each of us a $250 shopping spree.

Based on the day’s events, it’s evident that the folks at TJ Maxx are working hard at shaking the “cluttered store” stereotype that has plagued them over the years. I’d never considered TJ Maxx as a shopping destination and truth be told their menswear department could do with some touches of avant-garde, but I was mightily impressed with what they had to offer in terms of womenswear.

Dainty dresses galore could be spotted in the newly implemented boutique area called Runway at the Maxx. Similar to <a href="http://www.myfashionlife.com/archives/2008/11/19/marshalls-shoe-megashop/" target=blank">The Cube, Runway at the Maxx is a space set aside for appeasing the shoppers’ cosmopolitan shopping tastes. The space is stocked with not only stunning designer evening wear, but it’s teeming with casual and career minded ensembles and fashion forward footwear and accessories.

I’m hopeful that a boutique space for men will surface in the not so distant future….

Hope everyone is having a great Thanksgiving weekend and got some great bargains yesterday! With the official start of the holiday season, the markets are also looking a bit brighter. Kind of.

On Monday, Citigroup was bailed out from its recent troubles, with a $20 billion capital injection from TARP in exchange for preferred shares and a government agreement to guarantee over $300 billion of their troubled assets. The shares went from $3.77 last Friday (as I remember, but could be a bit off) to $8.29 yesterday. It would've been an easy way to double your money quick! Citi was simply too big and international to be allowed to fail.

On Tuesday, the latest economic data were released, citing a 0.5% decline in GDP from July-September, more than the 0.3% announced a month ago. Home prices also dropped a whooping 17.4% from a year ago, a record decline. Along with this bad economic data however, the Fed also announced a new $800 billion program to support asset-backed securities including consumer loans and mortgage-backed securities:

$100 billion to buy up debt issued by government-sponsored mortgage enterprises Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and the Federal Home Loan Banks

$500 billion to buy up mortgage securities backed by Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and Ginnie Mae

$200 billion facility to support consumer finance, including student, auto, and credit card loans and loans backed by the federal Small Business Administration

Designed as a life line for consumers, it is supposed to help consumers get home, car and credit card loans easier. I haven't figured out all the implications of this program is. I am still astounded by the sudden $800 billion splurge. Last time they announced a splurged $700 billion, there were long congress hearings and deliberations for at least a week. Where was the hearing and deliberation here (or have I just been unaware of the politics?)? Regardless, this has run the financial crisis tab to $7.36 trillion- double what was spent on WW2 adjusted for inflation!

Overseas, the latest headline to up the pirate fiasco last week (not that it has gone away), is the terrorist attack in Mumbai, India. I thought that Mumbai and Delhi were pretty civilized and safe these days with their strong economic growth and development. That is why I was so shocked to hear that the city was attacked by terrorists who randomly shot at people on the streets and hijacked 2 of the most luxurious hotels there, the Taj Mahal and the Oberoi, and a Jewish center, taking and killing many hostages! The latest death toll as of Saturday evening was at least 183. The terrorists, were well trained and in their 20s. They arrived in Mumbai by boat and the whole thing appeared to be very well planned. They suspect that the gunmen are from Pakistan and that this may have something to do with the dispute in Kashmir.
