Congratulations Corey! You win the $250 T.J. Maxx and Marshalls gift voucher. You were a clear winner so we didn’t need to use the tie-breaker question, but the competition was fierce.

Tanya and Cynthia were very close behind, but weren’t quite as complete on question 2. We accepted “yes”, but a more accurate answer is that T.J. Maxx and Marshalls carry both in-season and previous season merchandise. Bonus points went to those who mentioned that more than 85% of the stock is in-season.
Christine, Cherylp and Mishie were also in contention, but lost by a hair on question 1. We gave extra points to people that went beyond the information in the TJX corporate website, or at least acknowledged in their answers that these numbers applied to end 2007.
Antje deserves an honorable mention. She went completely above and beyond, citing her sources and calling the companies to get accurate information on the number of stores. Sadly, she missed on question 4. Although these stores don’t carry couture clothing, they do carry couture brands. Designers like Jean Paul Gaultier and Marc Jacobs run both couture and prêt-a-porter collections, and it’s their prêt-a-porter collections that you’ll find at some T. J. Maxx stores.
People were tripped up by question 5 on the differences between the two TJX off-price chains. Many answers talked about Marshalls, but few mentioned the aspects that are unique to T. J. Maxx.

On behalf of the TJX team, thank you so much for your thoughtful suggestions regarding the shopping experience. It was great to see the positive sentiment about the TJX concept and their retail chains in your responses. The chart below shows the four clear themes that emerged in the feedback: improvements to the organization of the store, improvements to the dressing rooms, more information regarding the stock in the store, and a wider range of available sizes.

Little Gems from CakeSpy

I just bought three adorable mini original watercolors from Seattle artist Jessie Oleson (aka "CakeSpy") for a Christmas present. I've been a fan of Jessie's since she sought me out after listening to me at the Crave Panel on starting a business. She was a delight to speak with and had natural business talent, especially in sales and marketing. I own a few of her originals and have gone through 20 or 30 CakeSpy cards this year alone (previous CakeSpy posts here, here and here).

My Sister in Law is a youngster. At the ripe ol' age of 7, her room is pink, pink and more pink. So, these three mini original watercolors will be perfect for her room (and hopefully stay with her as she grows older. I love my Oleson originals and I'm a few years older than 7!). As smart as my little Sister in Law is, she doesn't read this blog so these will be a big surprise for her on Christmas day.

After Dark Horrorfest 2009 Full Lineup

I always make it a point to see all of these, maybe this year I’ll un-lazy and go to the theater. Ok, probably not, but the line-up sounds good nonetheless. I’ll just add them to my Netflix for sure. But, I’m all about The Broken and Voices! I tried to snag as many trailers I could, but again I’m lazy. Enjoy!

As Simple As Black And White

My tenative steps towards all black ensembles (I really wanted to break up the fringe outfit with red shoes) have been greatly helped along by a few new additions from Ruche. Some of you might remember my previous dabblings in Ruche. To add to that collection I now have a lovely black bag with hidden outside pockets and wood details and a highwaist checkered skirt, also with pockets. I'm mildly obsessed with all forms of pockets and both these items will be getting a lot of wear in the near future.

The Good, The Bad, The Fugly - Week 8

The Good, The Bad, The Fugly returns after a bye week last week, with an all out Kicks On Court edition. With the NBA in full swing, and NCAA on court action really beginning to heat up, we had to do it! This week we saw some tough college match ups at the Maui Invitational, and as always some serious heat on the NBA hardwood.

TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS

For the second night in a row, Eva Longoria dined at her Hollywood eatery Beso on Nov 19, although this time her visit was strictly business after the previous nights festivities. Looking super perky in a plaid belted jacket (emulate the look with Suzabelles Marin Trench Coat in Tweed with the matching self belt or try Rough Roses Contour Belt with Stitching in Black) and dark bootcuts (like Hudsons Signature Bootcut Jean in Gemini), brown heels and studded leather tote (try Linea Pelles Dylan Crocodile Double Zippy in Emerald Green), Eva was smiling from ear to ear as she made her way to her car. Im a fan of her gold leaf earrings (just like Lisa Ks Tea Leaf Earrings in Gold) but Im not loving the cropped hair right now -- it could use a little pick-me-up, no? Eva has been under some pretty intense scrutiny over the past few months for her so called weight gain, and recently revealed her secret. Eva gave up meat after the summer and was able to drop the measly 5 lbs she gained with no problems. She said of her new meat-free diet, I love it... It really has affected my body... It takes a lot for the body to process red meat and Ive never been a fan of chickens. I completely agree with her, but Besos signature paella just wont be the same without the tasty chorizo! Guess we all have to make sacrifices... have any of you gone meatless lately?...

Clint Eastwood: I'm An Older, But Better Father

For 78-year-old Clint Eastwood, his mature year reflect the countless films he has starred in, produced, and directed, but when it comes to parenting his seven children -- including his 11-year-old daughter Morgan -- the California native believes that his age is just a number. While Clint is the first to admit his busy schedule over the last year may give the impression that he has little time for his youngest, the opposite is true, as Clint's "daughter takes precedence over everything." Although his determination to be an involved father may be evident in his parenting skills, that focus has not always been the case, according to Clint. Spending his younger years "working all around the world" on a "desperate" mission to "find the brass ring," Clint believes he is a "much better father now" who -- despite the odd looks -- can always be found supporting Morgan on the ball field.

"I go to all the softball games and look ridiculous out there because almost everybody's got a much younger father than me. But it's fun. I think you appreciate a lot more when you get to my age."

In addition to daughter Morgan with his wife Dina Ruiz, Clint also has daughters Kimber, 44, Alison, 36, Kathryn, 20, and Francesca, 15, and sons Kyle, 40, and Scott, 22, from previous relationships.
