It illustrates true love and makes me truly adore my friend’s boyfriend.

My friend “Tara” lost her PR job, so paying New York City-area rent became a struggle (this, of course, is not the good part). The solution: move in with her boyfriend, “William” and she won’t even have to help with the rent.

The move — and the idea of giving up most of her belongings in order to cohabitate in his one-bedroom Tribeca apartment — caused a bit of anxiety.

What would she do with all her stuff? Would she take up too much space? What about her beloved DVR she’d gotten so dependent on?

So, in order to make her comfortable (and feel like this was “their” apartment, not just “his”), he created Tara’s Happy List - a compilation of all the things my friend needs to be happy, within reason, for her five months (expected length of cohab) at his place. (more…)

A glamorous, big-budget short film of the silent variety will premiere in Paris this week, and it’s all due to Chanel and Karl Lagerfeld, who donned a director’s hat and let rip his encyclopedic knowledge of Gabrielle Chanel’s early years.

The 10-minute movie — in all its flapper glory, as these stills illustrate — will be screened at Le Ranelagh theater on Wednesday night, along with a showing of Chanel’s Paris-Moscow, a luxury pre-fall ready-to-wear collection embellished by the couture ateliers Chanel owns.

“Today, people are ready for silent movies again, as they spend time — hours, I would say — looking at text messages and e-mails,” says Lagerfeld. “I always loved silent movies.”

The designer gathered some familiar members of his entourage, including model Brad Koenig and his bodyguard/private secretary Sébastien Jondeau (mustachioed and surly as a Russian nightclub owner), for the cast, along with model Edita Vilkeviciute, her gamine allure, jutting chin and ramrod posture creating a beguiling portrayal of the young Coco from 1913, when the legendary designer first set up shop. As reported in WWD Nov. 17, Tallulah Ormsby-Gore plays a Chanel model who has to sell her real-life mother, Lady Amanda Harlech, a hat in the film. Even the workers in the Chanel atelier got to play parts as workers in the fashion house. “I cannot take extras,” Lagerfeld notes. “They don’t know how to touch the clothes.”

The second part of the film takes place in 1923, when Chanel was already established, and is interspersed with newsreel images from the First World War. The plot, conveyed with title cards, involves a fascinating cast of characters, many tied to Russia, including Chanel’s lover the Grand Duke Dmitri Pavlovich, from whom she borrowed the pea jacket and pelisse, giving them a feminine touch. “It’s a funny movie, unpretentious,” says Lagerfeld. “Chanel was a charming woman, at liberty to seduce men. Everybody this year has decided to make a movie about Chanel, and you know their historical worth is not always too exact.”

Lagerfeld’s mini movie took two days to shoot in a studio on the outskirts of Paris, and was “made like a Hollywood production,” the designer says. “I had every image in my head.” As for the collection he will show, he says it will be “constructed,” incorporating elements of imperial Russia and Russian folklore.

It’s time for the usual monday mega post and this time, I am going to write a long one regarding the local editorial scene.

Firstly, get to know the local fashion photographer duo Chuando & Frey, who were regulars at Style: and BAZAAR before moving on to become the creative directors of L’Officiel. They still shoot editorials and covers for each of the mentioned magazines once in a while.

One of their most famous work to date is shooting Janet Jackson’s ‘Discipline’ album cover and images:

What I have identified their photography style is that they always make the model look ultra edgy, fierce and smoking hot. They shoot mostly in studios and the shots are very polished and sharp, there is always this certain ‘metal’ feel about it.

Chuando also owns the local Avenue modelling agency which has a impressive list of models under its name.

(*The following shots are all photographed by Chuando & Frey)

Coco Rocha

Coco came here for experience when she was younger— way before she became famous during the Fall 06′ season.

Alana Kuznetsova

Alana is currently seen in the Vogue Paris 2009 calendar, the very first— January girl. She was on the cover of L’Officiel SG for July 08′.

Sophie Srej

This entire shoot—taken from Style: November 08′— is so va-va-voom that I could hardly believe it is Sophie Srej, the Hungarian stunner who walked down the Calvin Klein runway as an exclusive and also the much coveted Prada runway this season. Way to work it girl!

Serafima Vakulenko

Serafima— currently starring in the BCBG Fall 08′ ads alongside Tanya Dziahileva—acted up naughty in this editorial, found in the very latest December 08′ Style: magazine.

Monika Jagaciak

This is the Ashley Isham Spring 08′ ad. She is the model that had sparked controversy for being too young.

Emma Karlson

This editorial, is too stunning for words. It is also pretty nice to see Chuando & Frey working with more sultry colours and a full blown Geisha theme. Emma walked the Chanel Fall 07′ runway, and she appeared on the cover of Vogue Greece for October 08′ (that shot is a reprint of an Australian Vogue editorial though).

Other models who are under Ave, and had been or are going to be here in Singapore soon:

Speaking of Sigrid Agren, my senior found an issue of local Seventeen magazine with her in it. Starring in an editorial called ”The Princess Diaries” where she was styled into different socialites’ looks.

Photo by Terry Richardson: Marc Jacobs for the January issue of Harper’s Bazaar

I’m so excited about this news according to WWD, Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton is reviving the “hit 2001 collaboration with Sprouse for a new, limited edition collection of accessories and ready-to-wear.” This is great news since I missed out on the first collection, I was only able to get my hands on the graffitti pouchette! I’m going to save up my pennies and attempt to get the whole collection (who am I kidding?)!!! The collection “coincides with a retrospective — called “Rock on Mars” — at Deitch Projects’ 18 Wooster Street gallery from Jan. 8 to Feb. 28, and The Stephen Sprouse Book by Roger Padilha and Mauricio Padilha, due out from Rizzoli New York on Feb. 1. The impetus for the new line came when Deitch approached Jacobs and Vuitton about doing something related to the retrospective.” The collection hits LV stores worldwide on January 9, 2009- mark your calendars!

“I proposed putting together a Vuitton version of the Pop Shop, which was Keith Haring’s concept…not reissuing products that we had done with Stephen, but doing things that were similar or new,” Jacobs said.

The collection consists of two iconic Sprouse motifs, the graffit and the rose and will be interpreted into Day-Glo shades of pink, green and orange over the Monogram print. “The motifs are featured on Vuitton’s Keepall, Speedy and Neverfull bag styles, as well as basketball sneaker boots, pumps, sunglasses, headbands and wristbands, and small leather goods like wallets and coin purses. The rtw includes a mackintosh raincoat with a graffiti and monogram lining, graffiti leggings and a long-sleeve neon minidress featuring the rose design.”

On December 15th, a special website welovesprouse.com will go live which “feature a mix of interviews with people who knew Sprouse, including Debbie Harry, Candy Pratts Price and Patricia Field. In the clips, they muse on their relationship with Sprouse, and his lasting influence on the fashion and art worlds. There will also be a feature called Scrawl the Wall, where visitors can post comments, and a special section on Sprouse’s New York, highlighting some of the artist’s favorite haunts in the city.”

I simply can not wait, I’m having a good morning! Are you excited? What items are you planning to buy? I think I want all haha!!!

Hello guys! Belated Happy Thanksgiving.

Now that we’ve mentioned thanksgiving, our feature for today is another guest post about Vanna Bonta; her thanksgiving holiday.

So here goes the post:

Vanna Bonta has been on Catalina Island this Thanksgiving holiday. Here she is getting off a boat. The dog’s name is Sky and it’s not a fashion statement, animals have to wear muzzles on board so they don’t get wild. But Vanna’s leopard-skin pill-box hat and Tokidoki bag are nowhere near tame.

Bob Bylan wrote a song about this kind of hat

Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat
by Bob Dylan

Well, I see you got your brand new leopard-skin pill-box hat
Yes, I see you got your brand new leopard-skin pill-box hat
Well, you must tell me, baby
How your head feels under somethin’ like that
Under your brand new leopard-skin pill-box hat

Well, you look so pretty in it
Honey, can I jump on it sometime?
Yes, I just wanna see
If it’s really that expensive kind
You know it balances on your head
Just like a mattress balances
On a bottle of wine
Your brand new leopard-skin pill-box hat

Well, if you wanna see the sun rise
Honey, I know where
We’ll go out and see it sometime
We’ll both just sit there and stare
Me with my belt
Wrapped around my head
And you just sittin’ there
In your brand new leopard-skin pill-box hat

Well, I asked the doctor if I could see you
It’s bad for your health, he said

David Fincher - the director of the new Brad Pitt-starring film The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - has angered cast and crew on-set of the flick with his "abusive" nature, according to tabloid reports.

The film - which is adapted from the 1920s story by F. Scott Fitzgerald - follows a man who is born in his eighties and ages backwards. It stars Pitt as Benjamin Button and Cate Blanchett as Daisy.

But Fincher's imperious ways have done nothing to help the picture, according to the New York Post.

Now that you're feeling braver about making suits from separate pieces, let's all admit that finding pants that fit is one of the hardest parts of filling out a wardrobe. Why? Because most of us suffer from crazy proportions whether our thighs are thicker than our waists, our hips are low (or super wide, or too slim), or we're constantly battling a muffin top pants are ... a problem.

Since I spend a lot of time trying pants on with women of all different shapes and sizes, here are my recommendations for finding a reliable fit -- no matter what struggles you're having with your bottom half.

For basic go-to-work pants, Express has a nice-fitting style called The Editor. They're lower rise which can work well with a tummy that's not too large (the pants won't cut you at the widest part of your stomach, and worn with the right top or jacket, that little extra you're carrying will be effectively masked). The wide-leg a-line shape of the pants also works for heavier legs and lower hips. Trust me on this, I've seen these look good on a size 2 and a size 14.

Buy it here

Express

For those of you who insist that a lower rise just accents your muffin top, this mid-rise velvet pant by Old Navy fits great. It's a straight leg, so not great for anyone who's overly hippy, but they will accommodate a fuller leg (because they're not contoured through the thigh) and they come in both small and large sizes. Plus, the velvet makes a great bottom for a winter suit.

Buy it here

Old Navy also carries a fine wail flared leg trouser cord for those with more hip in their silhouette. The rise is classic, a bit higher than you may be used to these days -- but paired with a tucked shirt and jacket, these pants can work great as a suit-like option, or even on the weekend with a longer top and boots. Both dark night and bitter chocolate are rich versatile colors to have for the bottom half of your wardrobe.

Buy it here

Ann Taylor's Loft does a nice job making pants that fit more bottoms than your average designer. These stretch flare faux denim pants are perfect for those who are very curvy on the bottom and need a little smoothing over as hips and bum are incorporated into your silhouette. The lower rise and wide waistband accentuate hips in the right way, while the flared bottom balances out your overall proportion.

Buy it here

For those with fairly proportioned hips and bum, or for those in need of a little more shape, these flat front stretch flare leg pants from AT Loft are contoured through the hip and thigh and fit great. A very flattering and versatile look overall.

Buy it here

I can't say enough good things about Michael Kors' line. He understands that real people need to wear clothes too! My mother (nearly 70), my sister (40), and my assistant (24), all wear this line. It's cut really well, no frills to mess with your figure imperfections, and the size range for most items is 2-16. Here's a great petite option by him, the perfect trouser pant.

Buy it here

And for the more standard sized among you, the Gramercy pant by Michael Kors. They fit great in the whole range of sizes-- really!

Buy it here

Michael Kors

Lastly, for anyone with a post-baby body or who's filling out a little after 30, Kenneth Cole is a spot on designer for simple pants (flat front, non-pleated, low and mid-rise, flared leg, fuller cut thigh, and a little stretch) that come sizes up to 16 -- and look great even at the larger end of the size range. These dark denim trouser options are a perfect example, but you'll find the whole bottoms line is very accommodating.

Buy it here

So, just remember, if you're spending a lot time trying to find pants that fit, you are not alone! It's worth holding out for the right pair. I hope this narrows your search!
