Dear Fashion Kitty, Little J's Style

I gotta say, Little J is certainly stepping up her style on GG!

I was unsure of the whole emo make-up, bleached short cut thing, but I have to admit, it's growing on me. I liked her as a good girl, but this edgy look is really what she needs right now...and, apparently? What I need as well! I'm sick of being the preppy, Abercrombie mainstream label whore. Don't, get me wrong, I love me some A&F super skinnies (how Jenny are THESE?!)

But I've started to branch out and take risks. (One boutique, in particular, Jupe, in my hometown of Pittsburgh, is my new fave!) There's one problem, how do I begin this transformation without looking like a poser and loosing what I love-a slightly preppy look with everything, whether it be a cardigan, a headband, or flats...?

I have a slender frame like Jenny, am 5'7'ish, and don't fit into anything that isn't super-tight. I have a problem with looking too lanky in fancy, strapless dresses especially. My thin arms and flat chest are at point of high dislike, I have to wear tops with detailing or they have to be close fitting to work. So, Fashion Kitty, are you ready to make me over?

I would love to make you over! Its a good idea to go in stages when changing your look and it's more cost efficient. I would recommend starting with the hair /makeup and start incorporating more edgy pieces into your preppy wardrobe.

For the hair and makeup: To avoid looking like a "poser" I wouldn't copy her hair and makeup exactly. Find a cut you like and that fits your face and go with that. THEN you can color your hair blond -- plus that will be just be fun.

A dark eye is great for makeup but I think we can all admit that Jenny laid it on a bit thick. Go to a makeup counter and learn how to create a day time smokey eye. You may even want to experiment with color. Right now I am all about a blue smokey eye.

For the clothes: Keep your preppy duds, I am sure they are cute and you paid a lot of money for them. To update those clothes add in fun pieces like sweaters that have skulls on them. I love the idea of mixing preppy patterns like stripes with plaid.

There is also the obvious and inexpensive option of adding accessories. An arm full of bracelets, spikes, and layered necklaces can go a long way.

Shauna Sand Stages Barbie Goes to the Pumpkin Patch (Photos)

Shauna Sand visited Mr. Bones Pumpkin Patch in West Hollywood yesterday. Wait, she already took her three daughters and some heavily tattooed guy to the Halloween hyped patch two weeks ago.

Apparently that photo op didn’t suit the Playboy model so she made a few changes. This time around she arrived on the scene looking very much like a Barbie doll. She and one of her daughters were dressed for a Kodak moment and she had a new and different boyfriend on her arm. This time we’re told the fella is David Hansen.

Check out the photos from her first visit here. Then compare them to the new pics in our photo gallery below. We’re inclined to believe that the first outing was the real deal and from our vantage point, this new sighting looks like a carefully orchestrated media event.

It could have gone down something like this: “Hello….this is Shauna Sand. Just wanted to let you know we’ll be hitting the pumpkin patch in 30 minutes. Will that work for you guys? Ok, good. Bye.”

One of our favorite CultIndie members, Ariel, recently posted this guide to wearing flannel this season. Ariel is a fashion lover from Burlington, Virginia so we’re assuming she knows a thing or two about bundling up and how to rock one what’s quickly becoming a staple amongst the hipster set.

We fell in hearts with the post and decided to share it with the rest of you indies. Enjoysies…

Recently flannel has made a reappearance on the fashion scene. Hipsters, Cobain devotees, and Grungers are all attempting to make sure the leisurely, working class hero look remains. But there is a way to wear it and way not to wear it. Flannel should be original in its design, in that, it is not part of a corset or fitted top. If you’re going to take a step in the grunge direction, you might as well go full force without looking like a complete poser.

You can find a good lumberjack-style flannel shirt at any large vintage warehouse. The best part? Its dirt cheap! I found one online for less than $20. Because they are old, you can snag high-end brands like Ralph Lauren at rock-bottom prices.

Can’t figure out what size would look authentic on you? If your a girl, shop the mens department in the same size (So if you’re a medium in womens, look for a medium in mens). This way you can rock your flannel in the loose-fitting I don’t give a SHIT attitude that both Kurt and Eddie sported back in their heyday.

The last thing I want to see is someone wearing a tight fitting shirt in a tartan plaid print that bulges around her chest and over her muffin top. Wear it open with a cami and jeans, or buttoned mostly with a sexy bra underneath and leggings (if you want to be daring downtown at night). Oh…and whatever you do…make sure not to pair this one with stilettos…sandals or Docs should fit the bill for a complete flannel-based look.

Jill Nicolini and Anthony Cumia Fatal Attraction Split (Photos)

Playboy model and television personality Jill Nicolini has reportedly split from Anthony Cumia, radio talk show host of The Opie & Anthony Show.

Nicolini is a native of Long Island, New York and is a model, actress and traffic reporter for CW11 Morning News. She posed for Playboy under the name Jill Nikki in their Fall 2001 College Girls Special Edition. She ended up relinquishing her Miss Long Island 2002 crown, which kept her from running in the Miss New York pageant.

In 2003, Nicolini appeared on the FOX reality show Married by America, where she reached the finals. On the show she used the name Jill Marie Nicoline.

In May 2008 she began dating shock jock and fellow Long Islander Anthony Cumia. He has had issues with past infidelity and the relationship started to fall apart in August. Cumia shared with radio viewers that she is unstable and said that she went through his credit card statements looking for possible moments of infidelity.

She apparently took his Escalade, EZ-Pass and laptop - holding them hostage. She reportedly dropped in to retrieve her belongings from Cumia’s home while he was entertaining another woman. World has it she threw some of his new girlfriends things into his burning firepit. Cumia reports that he had to pay Nicolini $1,000 in extortion money.

Sounds like a reality show. We’re just saying….

Rumors are flying around the internet about The Girl’s Next Door and their boyfriends and we’re am not talking about Hugh Hefner. The only one that doesn’t seem to be getting much media coverage is Bridget Marquardt.

First we heard about Hefner’s #1 girl Holly Madison’s supposed fling with magic fingers Criss Angel and now most recently, ‘giggles’ herself, Kendra Wilkinson is rumored to be dating or engaged to pro football player Hank Baskett of the Philadelphia Eagles.

So what does Hef have to say about the attention his little dollies are getting? Mr. Hefner spoke with USmagazine.com and had this to say regarding the reported demise of his relationship with Holly:

“She is still my girlfriend. Now will it last? I don’t think anything lasts forever. I love her very much, but you know, she very much wants to get married and have children. This isn’t very much in the cards for me, so there has to be a certain reality there. And I’m sure the time will come when she will be dating others. That’s part of the transition.”

Hmm, sounds a little fishy to us. We would bet that the girls have been warned to keep their extra outside activities private. Understandably the big guy would want to be the one to announce the split of the 4-some.

Project Runway: Transformation

Last night's episode of Project Runway, entitled "Transformation" challenged the 6 remaining designers to create an outfit that was sophisticated, yet age appropriate. Hostess Heidi Klum began the episode by announcing that she had some "special ladies" to introduce. Much to the surprise of the remaining designers, out walked six middle-aged, average looking women. Klum continued, however, by explaining that the contestants would not be designing for them. Instead, they would be working with their daughters, who were recent college graduates! The challenge was to create a head-to-toe makeover to help them transition into their lives as independent, professional women. The designers were then randomly paired off with a mother-daughter duo.

Back in the workroom, mentor Tim Gunn joined the designers and explained that in addition to meeting the daughters' specifications, the contestants would also need to satiate the parents of the graduates, whom he described as having "no doubt, an opinion on the direction of the look." He further stressed that in a way, the mothers were partially the designers' clients. He went on to reveal that the budget for their garments would be one hundred dollars, and that they had two days to pull it all together. It was also an unspoken requirement that the looks be appropriate to the field that the young ladies would be entering.

Michigan based designer Joe Faris, was among the first to run into conflict with his mother-daughter team over the course of the challenge. Selecting an older, more mature looking pinstripe, Joe was immediately confronted by the daughter who objected. Unable to correct the fabric, and unwilling to lose his vision, Joe pressed on with his design.

FIDM Grad Leanne Marshall, meanwhile, was being berated by a controlling mother who declared that the dress made for her daughter, made her look "flat-chested." She went on to say, "if we tried this on in a store, we would say that we could find something more flattering." Taking the criticism to heart, Leanne scrapped her work, and chose to start over. Leanne's client Holly, and her mother, Ellie were dubbed the "Hedda Lettuce Clients" for this challenge, because of their difficult demeanor.

Florida native Kenley Collins, antagonized much of the workroom, both with her loud voice and her elitist attitude. Tim Gunn's suggestions for Kenley's design were taken smugly with a grain of salt by Kenley who remarked behind Gunn's back, "I'm not going to listen to that, I never really change anything for Tim." Third person aficionado Suede, however, took the brunt of Kenley's insults with her comment, "he is not a good designer." She went on to say that she thinks Suede is a "poser" and that his outfit is "horrible, horrible!"

During day two of the challenge, Tim Gunn introduced the TRESemme leading creative team stylist, Jeanie Syfu. Syfu explained that she was there to consult with the designers about their clients' makeovers. Syfu also divulged that the winner of the challenge and their model would grace the pages of Elle Magazine in a TRESemme ad! "It's all about head-to-toe transformations," she said. With immunity no longer in play, this was a reward worth working for!

On to the runway! Narcissist Kenley Collins, grabbed herself a spot in the top two with yet another retro-inspired floral print dress. Her client, Anna, seemed to suit her style well and the judges agreed saying Anna was a Kenley "mini-me." Editor at Large for Elle Magazine, Nina Garcia felt that the dress was "charming."

But Kenley's one trick pony act fell far short of victory as Los Angeles based designer, Jerell Scott rightly claimed the win for this challenge. He truly transformed his client, Caitlin, from an awkward, lanky girl into a mature, savvy woman capable of being an artist's assistant. Hostess Heidi Klum exclaimed "I love this look, you're hired!" We couldn't be happier that this duo will be featured in an upcoming TRESemme ad in Elle Magazine!

Now for the bad news. Ohio based designer Suede, landed himself a spot in the bottom two with a purple print dress accompanied by a wackadoodle jacket for his client, Avital, a would-be photographer. Heidi Klum stated that the design was "dated, overworked, and completely impractical." Nina Garcia felt that the jacket was "shocking" while Guest Judge and noted Fashion Designer, Cynthia Rowley sighed, "it's just a disaster."

However, the judges felt that Joe Faris's look for his client, Laura, a prospective graphic designer was the worse of the two, and Joe was auf'd because of it. Top American designer, Michael Kors mocked, "it's a 60 year old's idea of looking professional." While, Heidi Klum added that Joe "took a beautiful girl and aged her twenty-five years" with a look that is a "drab cliche." Sew it went, Joe is "Outsie Daisy," and we are one step closer to the finale!!

Next Wednesday's episode entitled "Rock N' Runway" challenges the 5 remaining designers to tune in to their musical side for a musical genre challenge. The episode promises to be jam-packed with drama as the possibility of sabotage arises, and everyone, including Tim Gunn and Nina Garcia, are fed up with Kenley's childish behavior. "Rock N' Runway" will boast multi-talented hip-hop artist and actor, LL Cool J as guest judge!

Whose runway look will hit a musical high note and who will fall flat just short of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.

Cool or Not So Much?

Granted, if you are a man it would make sense since most of the time you’re covered up, but as a woman wouldn’t it just distract from your decent set of baby feeders, possibly preventing you from ever looking presentable enough to do anything worthwhile with your life?

It’s especially annoying when nothing else about your style defines you as rebelious as the crazy ink blasted across your clavicle. I mean, if you had some wicked hair, some additional tattoos and piercings, and had your arm around Travis Barker, it would definitely be worth the permanent ink, but if you look like some Texan Walmart employee who’d rather spend her days at a baseball game than at the gym, this look just borders on poser.

If I was a chick and had a chest tattoo and looked like the completely random person we found above, I’d probably spend my days on FashionIndie.com, talking shit about Daniel Saynt and acting like I was important or something.

Oh yeah, and the Astro’s suck!!

Jillian Grace: New Mother of David Spades Daughter (Photos)

Jillian Grace gave birth to a baby daughter on August 26, 2008 in Missouri. The child is the biological daughter of actor David Spade. The name of the baby has not yet been released.

Jillian’s website had two recent entries. The first, dated May 15, said that the model had recently moved to the Ozark Mountains south of Branson and is settling into a small town in Arkansas.

Jillian’s entry dated August 26, 2008 said: “Today I welcomed a new addition to my family! We are both happy, healthy, and doing well.”

The Playboy Playmate has reportedly been in close contact with Spade over the course of her pregnancy. He plans to travel to visit Grace and her baby at his earliest opportunity, according to his publicist Meredith O’Sullivan.

Spade is currently shooting CBS sitcom Rules of Engagement.

Would You Wear Ripped Tights?

Today, Britt came into the office with a startling revelation: it's mid August. That's right. Somehow, summer got sucked through a black hole of white dresses and messy buns, and now Fall is basically one click away on our calendar.

But here's one bright, albeit frank, spot - we can't wait for the day we skip shaving and slide on a pair of tights instead; which is exactly why ripped ones have been playing on our minds recently.

Our mothers always told us that the best place for ripped stockings was the garbage can. But they also told us not to wear white after labor day or mix prints - so, like so much of their fashion wisdom, has the no ripped tights rule died with decorum?

On the one hand, they looked awesome on Alexander Wang's runway. Nylon rips gave the collection an endearing edge of "who cares". On the other hand, they might make you look like you've been sleeping in a dumpster for the past week - after all, Wang actually poured pounds of dirt all over his runway to make sure the models looked extra messy.

In other words, we're afraid this could be taking the whole grunge revival thing just a little too far - not to mention, purposefully tattered clothes (think artfully destroyed $300 jeans) kind of makes us want to use the word "poser" for the first time in years.

Shauna Sands Sports a New Trout Pout (Photos)

Shauna Sands seems to be changing her looks by the minute and it’s not pretty– frankly she’s scary. Hopefully, the ex wife of Lorenzo Lama doesn’t think that all these procedures are going to help her in her ‘career’. If anything, she looks like a porn star in the making - so if that’s what she’s looking for she’s right on track.

Sands was seen out with her boyfriend and another friend. They hit a coffee shop and then stopping at Cedars Sinai Medical Center. Jeez…what could she possibly have left to be done? And what’s with the stripper shoes? She apparently doesn’t leave home without them.

FYI - if you’ve tried on stripper shoes you know that you begin to take on a whole new persona - suddenly having urges to swing around a pole and bend over a lot. That being said, if those are the only shoes she owns…she can’t help it. Give that woman a pair of flats and guaranteed she will be working at the library in no time.
