Whatever you think of Sarah Palin [DISCLOSURE: fear and loathing] she's certainly given the fashion press a great deal to think about, such as the Sunday Times which decodes the semiotics of Sarah, as we used to say in grad schol.

Let Michelle Obama plunder Sixties Camelot for style tips; Miss Wasilla 1984 knows that America’s real golden age was the Eighties. Dynasty on the TV, Reagan in the White House. What could be finer? No wonder she’s beaming. This is one former beauty queen who really might get a shot at world peace. Matching the lipstick with the suit jacket was another sign of fearlessness, given the Eighties tomato ketchup shade, but it’s the Elnett hair that reassures most. Even Hurricane Gustav ain’t budging that.

In the pic above she's rocking the simple t-shirt and intimidating firearm look which if she wins is going to be THE Spring-Summer 09 trend in Paris and Milan.

Lloyd: "I’ve just finished reading Dan Kennedy on the media’s negative reaction to John McCain’s awful speech last night, and nowhere in it does he mention a very salient fact - that after the speech, Intrade’s price for McCain becoming president increased significantly, while Obama declined." Maria Pinto to New York

We dare say that just a few months ago, not too many people had any idea who Maria Pinto is.

But then everybody started getting bombarded with press releases about Michelle Obama's dresses of choice, and the designer name was always (except for the recent Thakoon) the same - Maria Pinto, a relatively unknown designer based out of Chicago, despite being in the business since the 90's and being sold at places like Saks and Takashimaya.

But now it seems Maria's career is on an upswing - she's opening her first showroom in New York.

Clearly, we're all just a few weeks away from receiving Spring 09 lookbooks - but the real question remains:

Is it weird to hold a show at Fashion Week if your line's been around for years?

Fashion Week Virgin at Liz McClean

So I have to admit - when it comes to Fashion Week, I'm a little green; actually, this is my first show. And while Britt and Natalie might be pros, I still have some things to learn.

Fashion Week Lesson #1: It is perfectly acceptable, if not actually impressive, if the show starts just thirty minutes late.

Fashion Week Lesson #2: When it's a million degrees outside and the show space, though beautiful, has floor to ceiling windows that let the sun shine through, fan yourself with your schedule/invite/whatever you can get.

Fashion Week Lesson #3: Waldo, as in Where's Waldo? equals fashion show celebrity at Liz McLean - this guy knew how to get his picture taken (more on him later).

Fashion Week Lesson #4: Learn to feign interest in the questionable presence of mesh tank tops, strange sheer capes and other pieces that don't even count as clothes in the real world.

Fashion Week Lesson #5: Don't be surprised when designers make political statements via the runway. Guess we know Liz is voting for Obama.

Fashion Week Lesson #6: Try, try, try to stop yourself from snatching the killer biker jackets and vests! Liz McLean's leather was so stunning we wished it was for Fall, as in, now.

Phew. Now that my first time is over and done with, check back to see how my next show goes.
