Not many people can say they have the privilege to own a Hermes Birkin at the young age of 16 like Zufi Alexander can. Zufi Alexander has always been exposed to fashion ever since she was a young girl due to her Mother. As stated on her website Ms. Alexander remembers her Mother mostly by, “her Jackie O sunglasses and vast collection of handbags.” Luckily, for Alexander her love for Fashion continued well after her completion of college.

After Zufi Alexander completed her Masters in Business she joined Christie’s in London, to continue on her handbag designing journey. “Being renowned in the company for sketching handbags, one of its directors finally suggested that she create her own handbag line”, (ZufiAlexander.com). Once, Ms. Alexander left Christie’s she opened her company in May 2004. Only five months later Alexander was ready to show her first collection at Fashion Week in Paris. Amazingly, her collection was immediately snatched up by Henri Bendel and Saks Fifth Avenue.

In May of 2005 Zufi Alexander was named New Accessories Designer of the Year by London Fashion Week. Not to long after receiving this coveted award Alexander was hired by the Louis Vuitton VIP club, Celux, to design limited edition handbags for its members. In my opinion, when you are hired by anything associated with Louis Vuitton you must be pretty special and obviously Zufi Alexander is. What is even more shocking is that Ms. Alexander has achieved all this success with her fashionable mind in four years. Some people can never achieve success in the fashion industry, and what Zufi Alexander was able to do in four years is fashionable and not to mention remarkable of course.

Among the celebrities sporting Zufi Alexander handbags are Beyonce, Katherine Heigl, and Sienna Miller. Cate Blanchett once wrote Ms. Alexander a note describing her handbag as “delectable”, as stated on Alexanders’ website.

Just like her Mother, Zufi Alexander has a vast variety of handbags in her Wonderland collection. Among my favorites are the Alexandra in Ostrich, Kiss It in Black Luxe, Kiss Me Baby in Gunmetal Metallic Leather, and the Rachel in Bronze Disco Phython. I’m craving to have the Kiss It in Black Luxe. It’s elegant, gorgeous, and kind of reminds me of a prettier version of a Fendi Spy. Although, the handbags above are my favorites in Zufi Alexanders’ collection there are lots more to choose from. What I love the most about the Wonderland collection is the variety of gorgeous exotics, styles, and beautiful vibrant colors. Even, the detail in Ms. Alexanders’ handbags is stunning and definitely is not something seen on very many handbags these days.

In conclusion, Zufi Alexander is a very talented designer and with all the success she has achieved in such a short amount of time, there is no doubt in my mind that she will be around for a very long time to come.

Some of my favorite Zufi Alexander handbags are as follows:

The Alexandra in Ostrich is absolutely amazing, topped off with an extra sprinkle of gorgeous. Of course I love this handbag because of the color, but it really looks like something you have never seen before. It’s different, exotic, and very unique in everyway possible. The Alexandra is definitely a bag that would catch every bagista’s eye while you carry it. No other word to say about the Alexandra but: beautiful.

The Kiss It in Black Luxe is to die for. As I mentioned above, it reminds me of a more elegant and prettier Fendi Spy. The Kiss It looks like a handbag that you could wear day or night. It’s not to fancy and not to casual, which makes it perfect for everyday wear. Doesn’t get any better, than finding a beautiful handbag that you can wear anytime of the day and the Kiss It is one of those handbags.

The Kiss Me Baby in Gunmetal Metallic Leather would be a great handbag when you are having a night out on the town. It looks a little too fancy for the daytime but when you’re going out to dinner at night to your favorite restaurant this handbag screams PERFECT! I love the color and shape of this handbag. The Kiss Me Baby does remind me a little of the Christian Dior Karenina bag but I must say, the Kiss Me Baby is much cuter. If you’re looking for a unique looking night handbag, the Kiss Me Baby would be a great buy,

Lastly, and probably my favorite of all the Zufi Alexander bags I have mentioned is the Rachel in Bronze Disco Python. I adore this handbag!! I’m all about satchel like handbags and the Rachel says stunning all over it. Yes, it is another “night” handbag, but it is another gorgeous handbag to wear when you go out. I’m usually not into little handbags but the Rachel is definitely some serious eye candy.

U Roads Recycled Soles

I Cant Afford to Love NY, Either!

There isn’t much that shocks me anymore. So when I lived in New York for the first time in summer 2007, it came as no surprise that most of the higher prices didn’t phase me. I knew that rent, food and alcohol was slightly more expensive anyway, so I took the high road and maxxed-out my credit cards to party on. There were two things, however, that did freak me the fuck out when I saw the price tags.

Movies are expensive as it is in Ohio. No thank you to paying $8 for a film I will probably hate anyway. My first movie in New York was Ocean’s 13 at that really cool theater downtown that overlooks the city. We arrived at the box office, and my friend asked for two tickets. “Eleven dollars each,” said the employee. I almost had a heart attack, and I’m sure my gaping mouth somewhat embarrassed my friends. I got over it quickly when I realized you could see much better films in The City than in Canton, OH.

Ah shopping. It doesn’t really get any better than in New York. A whole world of unique designers is right at your fingertips. I have been a vintage shopper since 8th grade, and I guarantee you I have supreme digging capabilities. In suburbia, vintage shopping is easy because people don’t realize the value of their old and moldy bullshit. And I have found some damn good deals in my day- a vintage Fendi bag, a purple Members Only jacket and brand new Doc Marten boots are some of the awesome things I’ve found in the past three years. So what’s the big deal, because you can find that stuff in NYC too? Each piece was under $30. The SAME pair of Doc Marten in much worse condition were $80 at Screaming Mimi’s. I paid $8.

Clinton feels my pain. He has designed a super cute and true t-shirt that reads ” I can’t afford to ‘heart’ NY”. An incredibly clever way of making money, and for $15, even me and my maxxed-out credit cards can afford it. If only it got me discounts at the bar…

In Rare Move, Luxury-Goods Makers Trim Their Prices in U.S.

For the first time in recent memory, luxury-goods makers are cutting prices on designer apparel, shoes and handbags in the U.S. market.

With even the biggest spenders starting to scrimp, luxury companies from Chanel S.A. to Versace SpA, Christian Louboutin and Chloé are reversing the industry's maxim that luxury prices only move up. The cuts range from 8% to 10% on most products sold in the U.S.

But the move isn't likely to dent the profit margins of most European fashion houses because the value of the dollar has increased 28% against the euro since April. Luxury-goods companies don't disclose margins for their individual brands, but Louis Vuitton, one of the world's most profitable labels, is estimated to have a margin of 45 cents on every dollar.

Louboutin's Carnaval for spring 2009 will sell for $1,665 in U.S.

In addition, brands such as Hermès, Chanel, Vuitton and Versace make most of their products in Europe, paying for their materials and labor in euros. The strengthening of the dollar means luxury-goods companies are earning more than they had budgeted on every handbag or piece of clothing sold in dollars.

Luxury-goods executives must walk a fine line when cutting prices. While $2,000 handbags and $700 stiletto heels are still expensive for most people, if prices drop precipitously, the perception of a label's value may also drop. "Never before have we done this," says Ralph Toledano, chief executive of Chloé, a division of Compagnie Financière Richemont SA, which recently lowered wholesale prices 10% on many items in its cruise and summer collections shipping to U.S. stores now. "This is an unusual time. You have to be creative at this moment."

Luxury-goods companies have been feeling the pinch as sales of high-end trinkets have slowed. Third-quarter sales at LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton SA, which includes the Vuitton and Fendi brands, rose 3.1%, decelerating from 5% growth in the first half. Italian jeweler Bulgari SpA on Thursday posted a 44% drop in third-quarter profit and said 2008 revenue growth would be lower than previously expected.

During the recent boom years, luxury companies often assumed that money was no object for their avid fans. French fashion house Louis Vuitton, which will hold prices steady for now, proved that consumers would buy its goods despite price increases. This year alone, the company has raised sticker prices in dollars twice for an average increase of 10% and sales have still continued to rise.

But other luxury makers have acknowledged that a ceiling exists even for exclusive goods. When French luxury-house Hermès raised yen-denominated sticker prices 50% over three years between 2004 and 2007, sales began slipping, and the brand has hardly dared to raise prices since. "We must take the market's capacity to absorb the price hikes into account," says Mireille Maury, Hermès's managing director for finance and administration. Hermès's commercial teams will decide by January whether to raise or lower prices in the U.S. and Japan, she says.

The move to cut prices began with Chanel last month. The French fashion house, known for tweed suits that can cost $8,000, decided to trim its prices by 7% to 10% on most items that are hitting U.S. stores now. "The dollar's recent strength has allowed us to pass on greater value to our customers," says John Galantic, the company's U.S. president.

Chanel's move emboldened retailers to persuade other design firms such as Dolce & Gabbana, Versace and Chloé to lower their prices as well.
Arnold Aronson, managing director of retail strategies at consultancy Kurt Salmon Associates and a former CEO of Saks Fifth Avenue, describes the situation as "a Pyrrhic victory" for retailers because it illustrates how challenging the economic environment has become. Just last week, luxury purveyor Neiman Marcus reported its same-store sales in October dropped 27% to $281 million, while sales at Saks Fifth Avenue fell 16.6% to $219 million.

Jessica was spotted coming out of Glik Music in Beverly Hills Tuesday afternoon wearing the same baggy-ass clothes but this time, holding her bag (a very nice Fendi bag) in front of her stomach! Just show off your bump already, quit toying with our emotions! Now that she's signed onto a new tour (with Rascal Flats) early next year, seems like she's readying her chops with a pro who claims to provide "many important music prep services such as audition prep for musical theater, music tracks, charts, pianist/keyboads, accompaniment, recording and more," at least according to his website! Hmmm. I guess she COULD be using him to get her voice in shape for the tour. But we also noticed something else of interest on his website -- The Chris Glik Band does weddings, too! Will it be another Simpson shotgun wedding?
