This has GOT to stop. Seriously. Like I've EVER purchased anything from Frederick's of Hollywood EVER? ("Like I would ever shop at Judy's?" <span style="font-style: italic;">Clueless</span> fans??) Boston Proper -- NEVER EVEN HEARD OF IT! Green Mountain Coffee? REALLY?!?!? MOMA Design? Purchased something online about 17,000 years ago, like before the dawn of the Internet Age, but, hand to God, you will fucking stay signed up for shit you didn't ask for AN ETERNITY if you don't make a conscious, concerted effort to get off catalog mailing lists...<br /><br />Anyway, I was horrified upon receiving an absurd onslaught of SO much wasteful paper, and clearly I did NOT sign up for this excess trash, which only serves as a reminder of how wasteful we can be without even trying. Fortunately, I remembered I'd signed up for <a href="https://www.catalogchoice.org/">Catalog Choice</a> earlier this summer...<br /><br />Catalog Choice isn't failsafe, but it's a step in the right direction. You sign up/ on for free, and you search for all of the catalogs you receive and want to stop receiving. For example, I opted out of the Delia's catalog -- I'm pretty sure I no longer receive it, whereas I still receive the Viva Terra catalog even though I did opt out. Tonight, I tried opting out of Fossil and Restoration Hardware, but both companies aren't yet signed up with Catalog Choice, but Art.com was. However, Catalog Choice will apparently contact unregistered companies on your behalf...<br /><br />Anyway, like I said, it's not a perfect solution to reducing your catalog waste, but it's a good start. What's the point of receiving wasteful paper catalogs when clogging up your inbox wastes nothing but the two seconds of your time it takes to click "deeeelete"?]]></content:encoded>

Those days are gone when I buy within a larger budget I allot to myself. Those were the days when I had more of a sense of freedom. Whoever said money doesn't buy happiness was WAY off. Money creates stability, saftey and freedom which leads to happiness and contentment. <br />In the past, I have randomly listed things I had a <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">jonesing</span> for, but I would like to list it in a more official manner. I think labelling it as my Orgasmic List is a good start for it explains the short lived euphoria I have when I acquire something I really, really want. This is a desire for something which surpasses anything requiring the justification of need. Pure desire of want; hence orgasmic. Get it? (my attempt at a play on words...) </span><br /><span style="font-family: times new roman;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: times new roman;">If only the world was <span style="font-weight: bold;">normal</span> once again. I wouldn't have to succumb to mere lists, but fully indulge in those things which makes my heart all aflutter.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-family: times new roman;">I wonder if these items will be as relevant in my list next year...</span><br /><span style="font-family: times new roman;">Probably not, since most of them are fashion/style based, and as finicky as this field of interest is...it is as Heidi <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">Klum</span> (roughly quoted)...one day you're in, and the next your out.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-family: times new roman;">Only time will tell.</span>]]></content:encoded>

We're kicking it off with a beauty product inspired by a <span style="font-weight: bold;">'90s TV show</span>. My choice? One of my favorite shows of all time (it's definitely in my top 5 to this day), <span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-weight: bold;"><a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0108872/">My So-called Life</a></span></span>.<br /><br />In a time of horrendous fashion and beauty (the '90s was, in my opinion, the FUGGEST decade), <span style="font-weight: bold;">Angela Chase</span> (played by then breakout star, <span style="font-weight: bold;">Claire Danes</span>) was an oasis of gorgeosity with her <a style="font-weight: bold;" href="http://www.beautybloggingjunkie.com/2007/07/tourmalines-and-tortured-teens.html">shiny, shiny crayola 8-pack red locks</a> and pale, perfect china-doll skin.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_h7qGmw8uoqs/SSGRld5L4EI/AAAAAAAAGwU/BqMHcRGcdKQ/s1600-h/derm+chromawhiterx.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 200px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_h7qGmw8uoqs/SSGRld5L4EI/AAAAAAAAGwU/BqMHcRGcdKQ/s200/derm+chromawhiterx.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5269653111865860162" border="0" /></a>To get <span style="font-weight: bold;">Angela Chase</span>'s perfectly smooth, creamy skin, I recommend <a href="http://www.dermalogica.com/product_dir/category_listed.asp?Category=ChromaWhite+TRx&amp;location=US&amp;region=B"><span style="font-weight: bold;">Dermalogica's ChromaWhite TRx System</span></a>. As we are in a recession, I'm not going to recommend the entire set to you (but just an FYI: I've tried each product and they all work well.) The line was created to brighten and even out skin tone, while reducing the appearance of <span style="font-weight: bold;">hyperpigmentation</span>. Also, it's important to note that the usage of these products does not cancel out the effects of your facial self-tanner. I was initially worried about that, but I've found that applying both the Chroma White system and self-tanner only yields warmer-hued, brighter, more even skin tone. Not a washed-out pallor. You know? The two most important components of the system are Tri Active Cleanse and Pure Light.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.dermstore.com/product_Tri-Active+Cleanse_17325.htm"><span style="font-weight: bold;">Tri Active Cleanse</span></a> ($38)<br />Created without the use of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skin_whitening">hydroquinone</a>, this creamy, non-foaming cleanser evens and brightens the skin's tone without damaging or irritating the skin. It helps to <span style="font-weight: bold;">remove discolored cells while purifying your skin of debris, excess oil and impurities</span>. After using it for six weeks, I've noticed my skin looks brighter and clearer. Best of all, it FEELS much softer.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.dermstore.com/product_Pure+Light+SPF+30_17330.htm"><span style="font-weight: bold;">Pure Light SPF 30</span></a> ($60) A dollup of this stuff applied daily to face and neck makes my skin feel smooth to the point that I plum can't stop feeling up my mug. Seriously. I love that it's packed with an SPF of 30, hydrates exactly enough without overdoing it on my combination skin. It emulsifies on your face with utter ease.<br /><br />Your <span style="font-style: italic;">peau</span> will glow in such a manner that people will throw themselves at you. And as <span style="font-weight: bold;">Rayanne Graff</span> said, "people throwing themselves at people? Is, like, the basis of civilization."<br /><br />Can't get enough of the '90s? Don your flannel, rock your new piercing, put some Techno on your Walkman, and head over to <a href="http://spoiledpretty.com/"><span style="font-weight: bold;">Spoiled Pretty</span></a> and read about what '90s TV show has inspired Daneen's product choice.]]></content:encoded>

They have installed a cap of <span style="font-weight: bold;">6 or 7 medical time-outs</span> for the year and plan to charge a 'nominal' fee, ranging from <span style="font-weight: bold;">$100</span> at a smaller to tourney to <span style="font-weight: bold;">$500</span> for at the biggest, for anything above the cap. However, the four majors will be exempt from the "user pays" system.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">WTA</span> vice-president of operations <span style="font-weight: bold;">Peter Johnston</span> explains:<br /><span style="font-style: italic;"><blockquote>We understand that medical time-outs can be legitimate but we want to make sure that players are conscious of how many they're using up throughout the year, so we're looking to find a system of capping them during the season.</blockquote></span><blockquote><span style="font-style: italic;">It would trigger what we'd call a service fee. It's a sports science and health issue, so it's almost like a pay-per-view. You can keep using them, but you pay for them, and the amount would depend on the level of the event. It's not about us revenue-raising, it's more just a mindset — like, 'Hey, checkpoint, you've triggered this. Are they all legitimate?' It discourages the practice of, 'I'm feeling a bit weary, I might take a medical time-out'.</span></blockquote><span style="font-style: italic;"></span>The Tour plans on reinvesting the fees into sports science services and the players council was described as "being supportive" of the idea.<br /><br />I agree something finally needed to be done to curb these annoyingly unwarranted mid-match trainer calls but it always bothers me when there isn't consistency across the board and certain tourneys get exempt. Plus, I'm not sure the top lady ballers, who usually grab the most attention with these incessant call for the trainer, will be prevented from calling when the fees are miniscule relative to what they're earning overall.<br /><br />But I imagine somewhere in the world <span style="font-weight: bold;">Jelena Jankovic</span> is saving her pennies just in case.<br /><br /><span style="font-size:85%;"><span style="font-style: italic;">(image via Getty)</span></span><br /><br /><div><script type="text/javascript">addthis_url='<data:post.url/>'; addthis_title='<data:post.title/>'; addthis_pub='chulobear';</script><script src="http://s7.addthis.com/js/addthis_widget.php?v=12" type="text/javascript"></script></div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><script expr:src='"http://feeds.feedburner.com/~s/DownTheLine?i=" + data:post.url' type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"></script></div><div class="feedflare">

I partially blame the dry California climate, but it's something else too... I have major buildup on my scalp (GASP!). It's as if the shampoos aren't entirely washing; like the soap is stuck on my scalp! And when you are being "weighed down" by a mass of unwanted gunk, obviously your hair is going to appear limp and lifeless... there's just no volume if the volume doesn't start at the roots (duh!).<br /><br />Now, I want the buildup to go bye-bye, but I also want a sulfate-free shampoo (for a review on why sulfates suck, click <a href="http://beautybanter.blogspot.com/2008/08/why-sulfates-suck.html">HERE</a>). But here's the thing: most sulfate-free shampoos hardly sud (if at all). This is totally normal because the very ingredient that produces the suds IS sulfates, so removing sulfates removes the sud effect. This does not mean that your hair is not being cleaned properly, but if you're like me, you're a creature of habit. And habit leads us to believe that we need those suds for a good, solid, heavy duty cleanse.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br />Enter <a href="http://pureology.com/">Pureology Purify Shampoo</a>. The name says it all: it's a deep wash, meant to remove excess buildup from the scalp. And Pureology washes plus the suds... and that's the way I like (and need) my hair to be cleaned.<br /><br /><br /><br />Of course, curiosity getting the best of me, I had to find out how Pureology is able to accomplish such a feet!<br /><br /><br /><br />Here's what PureArtist April Webster had to say:<br /><br /><br />“There are many "non-sulfate" shampoos available, many in health food stores. They are free from harsh salt based surfactants but they tend not to lather. Unfortunately, most Americans equate cleanliness with the amount of suds that they see. PureOlogy solves this problem by using surfactant derivatives made of corn, sugar and coconut. These are much gentler on the hair and scalp. Also, in PureOlogy’s NanoWorks Shampoo, the luxury ingredient of palm oil is added as an additional surfactant. You may not recognize these ingredients by their chemical names such as Sodium Cocyl Isethionate, Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate and several others; just know that they do not contain salt or salt derivatives.”<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />So, now I've merged my two desires: no more scalp buildup (lots of volume) and a sulfate-free shampoo that actually suds!<br /><br /><br /><br />I love me some clean, volumized hair, sans the sulfates!]]></content:encoded>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><span class="cap">W</span>e invest in expensive makeup, we read up on how to perfectly apply it, and we take the time every morning to put it on with perfect precision. We do this, so that we can cover up those fine lines and wrinkles without looking like we're wearing makeup. We do this so that we can achieve that perfect moist and dewy look without our skin looking oily. So that we can add that subtle, yet vibrant boost of color to our eyes, making them stand out, and so that we can achieve those perfect lips- plump and pouty without being too whorish looking.</p> <p>And isn't it disappointing when you dedicate all that time to achieve the seemingly impossible, only to have your makeup slide off your face a few hours later?!!</p> <p>Well ladies, keep reading, because below I've included some fabulous makeup tricks on how to get long lasting makeup -so that it stay on all day long or all evening out!</p> <p>Let's start with the very basics - moisturizer. Its important to properly hydrate your skin before applying makeup,as your makeup needs something to stick to (for those of you with oily skin, it's best to use an oil free moisturizer). You do not want to apply your makeup right after, as you need to provide your skin with enough time to properly absorb the moisture, otherwise your makeup will simply slide right off. Therefore, it's best to wait 10 - 20 minutes first.</p> <p>The next step is to apply a makeup primer. Primers provide a clean 'base' to your makeup and absorb excess oils, providing your makeup with long lasting power. They also have built in moisturizing power, so unless your skin is particularly dry, you can actually use a primer in place of a moisturizer. Some of the popular ones include NARS makeup primer (which has the added benefit of built in SPF 20), Smashbox photo finish foundation primer, or Naked Minerals Neroli setting mist- which is actually sprayed on after makeup application, rather than before, and provides you with a radiant glow.</p> <p>After the primer, apply a liquid foundation. Oil based foundations tend to provide better coverage than the oil free ones, however they also slide off more quickly. So unless you really need the heavy coverage, opt for an oil-free foundation. I find that the "mousse" consistency foundations also stay on quite well, like Biotherm.</p> <p>To ensure that your foundation is set in place, dust a light layer of loose powder on top. This helps "seal" in your makeup and blot any excess oils that may develop, providing your makeup with long lasting power.</p> <p>If you have really oily skin, you might want to try carrying around oil blotting pads (clean and clear makes excellent cheap ones). By blotting up excessive oil throughout the day, you'll help stop your makeup from "sliding off" your face, keeping it in place, where it belongs!</p> <p>Next choose a blush. Your best option is cheek stain, it stays on the longest. Cheek stain can provide some pretty powerful color though, and it can also be a bit difficult to spread. In which case the next great alternative is a powder based blush, as those tend to stay on much longer than cream blushes. If you choose to use bronzer instead of brush, also go for the powder version over any of the creamy or liquid options.</p> <p>After applying blush, head up toward the eyes. For eye shadow that stays on all day long, try prepping your lids first with an eye primer - like Benefit cosmetics FY eye, or moisturizer, and then dab on a light layer of foundation to follow. Wait for it set and then apply your eyeshadow. This should make it last double as long!</p> <p>If you use eyeliner, although eye pencil will provide you with a slightly more natural look, liquid eyeliner will stay on the longest.</p> <p>When applying mascara, opt for a waterproof one - you never know when you might feel the need to cry, or when it may just start raining. Make sure to apply multiple coats for thicker lashes and la long lasting stay.</p> <p>And finally, your lips. Avoid using lip-balm right before applying lip color- it makes your makeup slide right off. Apply lip pencil all around the edges and then color in the insides with pencil too. Dab on a drop of foundation to fill in the cracks, and then brush on loose powder to set. Proceed to apply your lipstick as usual.</p> <p>Matte lipsticks are preferred. While they may be drying, they tend to stay on much longer then their "moisture providing" counterparts. If you're looking a "wet" finish, you might want to apply a layer of sheer gloss on top.</p> <p>And now you're finished - so relax and enjoy! There are a million things you have to worry about or remember throughout the day, but reapplying your makeup is simply not one of them!</p><p><br /></p><p>Anne McNealy is a professional freelance writer who contributes to a wide variety of health and nutrition web sites. You can now find her secret trick for even longer lasting makeup - <a href="http://www.goodnutritioncenter.com/naked-minerals/">Naked Minerals</a> Neroli Mist. Just make sure not to tell!</p>]]></content:encoded>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I am not a big fan of the minimalist look, shown by Calvin Klein, Balenciaga and Yves St Laurent in their autumn / winter 08 collections. The minimalist look is free from accessories, adornment and pattern. Instead it creates interest with strong silouettes and sharp tailoring. I think this look is great if you have the money to invest in real quality pieces. With no accessories, patterns etc to draw the eye, a badly cut or poor quality piece of clothing will appear exactly what it is.</p>
<p>In stark contrast, there is another key trend for Autumn winter 08 for extravagant excess. With richly coloured prints and patterns, metallic fabrics, fringes, ruffles, lace and statement jewellery, these outfits have plenty of interest and plenty to keep the eyes busy. I love this look, but when it comes to extravagent details and accessories, how much is too much?</p>
<p>It is very true, it&#8217;s not about what you wear, it is how you  wear it. How much is too much, when it comes to dressing is all about you. How you look, your personality and how skillfully you can combine the different elements to create an extravagant but stylish look. There is only one way to find out, have a go. Try combining clashing colours and patterns, different textures, contrasting materials and looks. If you have a very outgoing personality, love being the centre of attention, are tall and can mix and match clothes and accessories sucessfully, then there really is no such thing as too much. You can create an interesting and energetic outfit that combines a mish mash of different looks, colours, patterns or textures.</p>
