While in the Crocs Shop, I just had to try on the Crocs Cyprus sandals - the first Crocs high heel, fashion fused with comfort for the ultimate in style.  And I have to admit, even though the pair I tried on was a size too big, they were quite comfortable. I’m wearing the Black/Silver above, but I can see myself buying/wearing the Black/Black or the Chocolate/Cotton Candy color.

From the second-to-last paragraph of today's Times story about artist Swoon's cool-looking Swimming Cities of Switchback Sea, an installation of seven boats made from scrap and floating down the Hudson, accompanied by music, theater, and performance from a crew of dozens:

Shortly before setting off the group gathered in a circle. The men, in vests, trousers, beards and derby hats, seemed inspired by members of the Band. The women wore everything from light slips to purple jeans and orange crocs. Swoon thanked them for their help. “I’m a little dumbstruck,” she said. A bottle of Champagne was uncorked, and Swoon ran around the circle dripping it into the mouths of her fellow travelers.

I seriously didn’t think I would ever known a pair of Crocs. But I’m a sucker for sales, my second fave shoe choice behind mules would be mary-janes, and my favorite color is pink.  So, you see what I bought last week above - yep, two pairs of pink Mary Jane Crocs (one fuschia, the other pearl pink). They were on clearance for only $6.66 at Herberger’s so how could I resist?  They only come in whole sizes (I’m a 7.5) and they say ”half sizes please order the next size up” but the size 7 fit way better than the size 8, so I went with them.  I’ve wore each color once (while my daughters rolled their eyes at me), and I have to admit <shudder> that they are pretty comfortable.  I can see though why schools are banning them as they could easily be punctured on the playground.

Then last week while touring Boston, I got to visit an actual Crocs store, where they were selling the exact same shoes I bought for $29.99 each. I can’t find them cheaper anywhere online either, so I obviously got a good deal! Hmmm, maybe I should go buy some more to re-sell on eBay?

So I didn’t think it was possible to create something more horrifying than hotflops, but evidentally, it is. The Aurelia Gladiator Sandal literally wants to make me run for the woods. I don’t know why anyone would ever design this, but there needs to be a boycott. Please, I’m begging everyone, do not purchase these. Trust me, you don’t want to be seen in these shoes. Their like a cross between Crocs and Hotflops only worse. I can’t even look at them!

2. Los Campesinos!, "How I Taught Myself to Scream"
What Los Campesinos! learned to scream on this unreleased track from the sessions from their spring release was "We don't get tired, only tired of you." We certainly aren't tired of them, which is a good thing, because they have another record coming out in October. [Stereogum]

3. Ice Cube feat. Young Jeezy, "I Got My Locs on"
Given Cube's recent proclivity for cheesy family comedies, we thought the title was "I Got My Crocs on" when we first saw it. Fortunately, this blunted new track is more street than that, but only just barely. [Sit Down Stand Up]

4. Peter Bjorn and John, "Inland Empire"
PB&J no longer care about the young folks on this track from their new instrumental album, which trades catchy whistling and cute boy-girl vocals for screechy sax and atmospheric piano. [Sound Bites]

5. Okkervil River, "Bruce Wayne Campbell Interviewed on the Roof of The Chelsea Hotel, 1979"
In this second track leaked from Okkervil River's upcoming album (the companion to The Stage Names), singer Will Sheff channels Bruce Wayne Campbell, the glam rocker who starred in Hair. Lacoste has finally dropped its fall goods, including some items specific to the U.S. Open (just around the corner!). We also get a preview of what the sexy Dominika Cibulkova and other Lacoste ladies will likely be wearing in Queens.

These separates are highlighted by keyhole detail on the sleeves and contrasting white bands on the sleeves and the ribbed banded hem. A very simple design with enough accents to be sophisticated.

We love us some Beckham-fash-action, but it’s time that certain things in the repertoire are permanently retired:

1. Victoria’s bob. We hated it, we liked it, we were indifferent.  Now we are just over it. Remember those happy, lush-locked days full of wefts and glue and bald spots?  We miss that.

2. As for David, sure, he is consistently sexy and could walk the streets in a tube skirt and Crocs and would still be hot, but it’s time to let go of the half-tucked shirt trend that never was.

We’re withholding judgment on David’s tucked tie and Victoria’s Proenza Schouler shine-fest of a dress until we’ve had some form of caffeinated beverage.

I know it's not particularly hip to say so, but I do love my Mary Jane Crocs. They are extremely comfortable, but unless you're a kid, it's kind of hard to get away with wearing them 24/7 (plus my feet sweat in them). I was happy to learn of Crocs' offshoot lines such as Bite, Ocean Minded, and YOU by Crocs. Each has its own totally different concept and look but all incorporate Crocs' trademark Croslite material, which the company defines as "a proprietary closed cell resin that is neither plastic nor rubber." The benefits in their signature line is that has great gripping capabilities, odor-resistant, and is anti-microbial and won't leave marks on the floor. I was somewhat skeptical how these properties would translate to a shoe that is not primarily made of Croslite.
