Though her style might be slightly alternative, she still appreciates the finer things in life. She’s naughty and nice with style to boot. This holiday embrace the harsh adornments and bare bones charm with tattoos, studs, and stones. Give her the gifts you know she’ll love under an appropriately interesting tree.

Few combinations make more sense than the Plaza Hotel and chic baubles. On Monday night Lia Sophia’s Elena Kiam and Nylon’s Dani Stahl, who brings creative direction to the red carpet collection, invited their nearest and dearest to pile on sparkly earrings, necklaces, cocktail rings and bracelets. Shoshanna Gruss, Charlotte Ronson and The City’s Olivia Palermo had a field day trying on pieces from the Spring 209 collection, which fuses futuristic form and stylistic function. Called “2020” this season features modular and architectural shapes with crystal details. We expect to see these pieces on editors, starlets and socials all over town.
Priced $80-$3,000, the collection will be available at liasophia.com.

Madonna is going to be the new face of Louis Vuitton’s Spring 2009 campaign, according to sources at WWD. We have to say we saw it coming with her stunning Madonna for Versace ads and thought it was about time another fashion powerhouse scooped her up. She will work with frequent collaborator Steven Miesel ( he shot numerous picture for her infamous 1992 book “Sex”) to take the iconic shots. Meisel is following along an impressive line of photographers for the major fashion label. We were thrilled with Annie Leibovitz’s campaign for the house, which featured icons like Sean Connery, Keith Richard, Mikhail Gorbachev, Francis Ford Coppola and Sophia Coppola and love the work of Patrick Demarchelier and Inez & Vinoodh, who have also shaped LV campaign history. Based on previous ads we hope the rumors are true, because there’s no doubt Madonna’s will be just as brilliant!

Ok, we get it, the economy is in shambles and we are supposed to be saving our pennies. But some pieces are awfully tempting and this one is begging for our ownership. We have long loved Lanvin and this bag seems like a stunning investment. The soft creamy color and ribbon detail make the “Happy Ribbon Sac” a sweet statement.
Available at Barneys.com for $2,025
Dust off your portfolios fashion designers and get ready for Supima’s 2nd Emerging Designer Competition to be held in SoHo, New York. The Phoenix-based marketing agency for U.S. grown pima cotton has created a contest modeled after the 1954 Wool Secretariat competition that launched the careers of legendary designers like Yves Saint Laurent and Karl Lagerfeld. Their cotton is the chosen brand for designers and retailers like James Perse, Ralph Lauren, and Brooks Brothers. The open call will be held at the Thompson Hotel in SoHo on Thursday November 20th (4pm to 9pm) and Friday November 21st (10am to 1pm). 25-30 designers will be hand picked for the event. The competition will be centered on one womenswear evening piece made from Supima cotton that will be presented during a live runway show on January 14th at Gotham Hall. Select sketches and winning designs will also be shown in a Supima magazine distributed to fashion retailers and buyers as well as on the Supima website. Applicants need to bring a portfolio, cv or resume, a sketch of the evening wear entry, and a garment they have designed and sewn themselves. You will meet with an esteemed panel of judges at the open call for an interview. Once you are chosen to be a contestant, you will be given 10 yards of the luxurious cotton in which to complete your design. Make it work designers and good luck! ~ Maria Denardo

Stylecaster, a new fashion website, has come out with a series of short films to highlight established and emerging talents within the fashion community. Label lusters beware! You will love this. The wardrobes include names like Richard Chai, Matthew Williamson, and Carolina Herrera. There are 4 shorts so far with a different soundtrack to each. The clips range from a glitzy night film called “Girls Night Out” to a “Ready for Work” clip featuring designer Catherine Fulmer and model Molly Watts playing 2 women getting dressed for a day on the job. My favorite is called “Transformation” which follows writer and model Jessica Joffe as she quite literally transforms her outfit from day time to date time. (Director Josh Sternfeld is the same guy who wowed the Tribeca Film Festival with his movie Winter Solstice.) “Transformation” is super cute and set to Exit Clov’s “District Menagerie.” The videos are interesting and left me curious for what’s to come in the future.
