A common wedding gift is something fancy with the couple's monogram on it. Maybe you're well-known in your family as the one who gives the monogrammed serving platter, or engraved champagne glasses, or some other etched gift. And now you're facing a dilemma: you want to give your go-to gift, but the couple won't be sharing a last name.

If they will share a last initial, then you're golden, but if Mr. Collins is marrying Miss Lucas and she's not changing her name, then what do you do? Here's a simple solution: buy the gift, un-monogrammed, then give the couple a gift certificate or cash to have it engraved as they wish. Cash is better, because they may have a better use for it than branding their things, but this is up to you.
