I have to admit that in the thrift stores this weekend I was more interested in scoping the "seasonal" aisles for vintage Christmas items than I was in looking for dresses. Not that I didn't find any clothes to sell (I found a wonderful pink cocktail dress just a few hours ago--more on that later!). I just had a better time picking up tacky little ornaments and searching for kitschy wreaths to hang on my door.

Here's my Christmas tree. It's on its way to becoming like my grandma's tree, circa 1985. The dresses on the right will be put up in the store this week, and I really think I'm going to try to focus on selling vintage party dresses on Tuesday, so if you're looking for something to wear to an office party (I'm jealous of you, by the way! I won't be going to one this year, which is a shame because they're always so nice and awkward) or to a New Year's Eve party be sure to check back in a few days. Also I'll probably be listing them with optional Buy-It-Nows so they can be delivered faster.
Store aside, I've been also drawn to extra gaudy costume jewelry like the pieces in the picture on the lower right. The more rhinestones the better. I think that the reason I'm more nostalgic about the holidays than usual this year is that I've been homesick. Some scary things have been happening in my family, health-wise, and sometimes I feel tempted to just pack it up again and move closer to the rest of my family. So it's nice to fill my apartment with things that remind me of happy old Christmases in the '80s, when I felt that everything was lovely and nothing bad could happen!
So of course I've been searching for vintage holiday photos in the ever-addicting Flickr photo groups. The following are from the Christmas Past pool. I love the tacky decorations and how awkward some of the people look. Sometimes it's kind of sad though!

This one is my Christmas tree inspiration!
