Last night at the Palais, Madonna, Sharon Stone, Naomi Campbell, Carine Roitfeld and Natalia Vodianova wore multiple carats and showcased impressive fashions–but the fashion world was preoccupied with, ahem, athletic matters. Manchester United and Chelsea played a European Championship title match, so even the chicest were glued to television screens. During the premiere of Che, many checked the scores in the bathrooms, while others caught the action in the lobbies of the Martinez and Carlton hotels. Every café, bar, and private yacht broadcasted the event. Even at the Soho House’s Grey Goose party, guests could hardly sip martinis in peace without frequent hurrahs causing spills.

The undisputed queen of the festival is Chopard’s First Lady Caroline Gruosi-Scheufele. The tireless and glamorous suisse managed to host multiple events, select jewelry for virtually every star that matters, conduct business appointments and interviews…and do it over again the next day. For the first time, the jewelry giant is a presenting sponsor at tonight’s AmFar gala, by far the biggest event in Cannes. No wonder Gruosi-Scheufele will try to pace herself. “After Chopard Trophy, I stayed up until 6 a.m,”, she told Chic Report. “We went to our Crystal Beach Club, then to the VIP room and by the time we came out I noticed that the sky was light. I promised myself that in my lifetime, I wouldn’t go to sleep when it was light outside. You start to feel guilty–but as long as everyone had a great time, that’s all that matters.”

Meanwhile, how did Brad and Angelina celebrate the best reviews of Jolie’s career in Clint Eastwood’s The Exchange? With a slice of pizza, of course–and not just at any joint here in Cannes. The duo enjoyed a meal at a casual eatery all the way in Monte Carlo, where they dutifully posed for pictures, signed autographs and even asked to be seated the window. Huh?
